  1. 6. Climate Change Impacts on the Catchment Contribution to Lake Water Quantity and Quality

    Författare :Karen Moore; Kurt Pettersson; Donald Pierson; Timothy Kratz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Climate change; water quality modelling; Lake Mälaren; GWLF; nutrient transport;

    Sammanfattning : A key question related to climate change projections is how will aquatic systems respond to changes in variables such as temperature and precipitation? This thesis uses GWLF, a simple catchment scale model to explore potential impacts of climate change on water quantity and quality.River discharge and nutrient loads were modelled for several warmer world scenarios. 2. 7. Phytoplankton drivers in a marine system influenced by allochthonous organic matter – the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Joanna Paczkowska; Agneta Andersson; Owen Rowe; Harri Kuosa; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; nutrients; allochthonous organic matter; humic substances; structuring factors;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change scenarios predict that seawater temperature and precipitation will increase in the Baltic Sea region during the next century. In the northern part of the Baltic Sea, increasing inflows of the terrestrial allochthonous dissolved organic matter (ADOM) are expected to be a major consequence of elevated rainfall, which can alter light and nutrient availability for phytoplankton. 3. 8. Biofiltration technologies for stormwater quality treatment

    Författare :Godecke-Tobias Blecken; Jean-Luc Bertrand-Krajewski; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Due to high runoff volumes and peak flows, and significant contamination with (inter alia) sediment, metals, nutrients, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and salt, urban stormwater is a major cause of degradation of urban water ways. Since current urban drainage systems, which heavily rely on piped sewer networks, may not be sustainable, attempts are being made to develop and refine sustainable urban drainage solutions, notably in Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and Low Impact Development (LID) concepts. 4. 9. Applying coagulation, flocculation and discfiltration in tertiary treatment

    Författare :Janne Väänänen; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Reducing eutrophication in our surface waters caused by nutrient overload is of importance in order to ensure an environment in ecological balance for future generations. Municipal wastewater treatment plants are the main point source of nutrients emissions. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Reproductive allocation and costs of reproduction in subarctic herbs : A resource-based perspective

    Författare :Åsa M. Hemborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Altitudinal gradient; Plant size; Predispersal seed predation; Reproductive effort; Resourcedynamics; Seasonal variation; Sexual dimorphism; Somatic costs; Unisexual plants; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : The influence of internal and external factors on two major plant life history components, i.e., reproductive allocation and costs of reproduction, was examined for nine perennial herbs in subarctic Swedish Lapland. In one study, comparisons were made between Sweden and the French Alps. LÄS MER
