6. Climate Change Impacts on the Catchment Contribution to Lake Water Quantity and Quality
Sammanfattning : A key question related to climate change projections is how will aquatic systems respond to changes in variables such as temperature and precipitation? This thesis uses GWLF, a simple catchment scale model to explore potential impacts of climate change on water quantity and quality.River discharge and nutrient loads were modelled for several warmer world scenarios. 7. Phytoplankton drivers in a marine system influenced by allochthonous organic matter – the Baltic Sea
Sammanfattning : Climate change scenarios predict that seawater temperature and precipitation will increase in the Baltic Sea region during the next century. In the northern part of the Baltic Sea, increasing inflows of the terrestrial allochthonous dissolved organic matter (ADOM) are expected to be a major consequence of elevated rainfall, which can alter light and nutrient availability for phytoplankton. 8. Biofiltration technologies for stormwater quality treatment
Sammanfattning : Due to high runoff volumes and peak flows, and significant contamination with (inter alia) sediment, metals, nutrients, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and salt, urban stormwater is a major cause of degradation of urban water ways. Since current urban drainage systems, which heavily rely on piped sewer networks, may not be sustainable, attempts are being made to develop and refine sustainable urban drainage solutions, notably in Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) and Low Impact Development (LID) concepts. 9. Applying coagulation, flocculation and discfiltration in tertiary treatment
Sammanfattning : Reducing eutrophication in our surface waters caused by nutrient overload is of importance in order to ensure an environment in ecological balance for future generations. Municipal wastewater treatment plants are the main point source of nutrients emissions. LÄS MER
10. Reproductive allocation and costs of reproduction in subarctic herbs : A resource-based perspective
Sammanfattning : The influence of internal and external factors on two major plant life history components, i.e., reproductive allocation and costs of reproduction, was examined for nine perennial herbs in subarctic Swedish Lapland. In one study, comparisons were made between Sweden and the French Alps. LÄS MER
