16. Materials Modelling for Energy Harvesting : From Conversion to Application through Storage
Sammanfattning : In this Ph.D. thesis, ab initio density functional theory along with molecular dynamics and global optimization methods are used to unveil and understand the structures and properties of energy relevant materials. In this connection, the following applications are considered: i. LÄS MER
17. Optical Efficiency of Low-Concentrating Solar Energy Systems with Parabolic Reflectors
Sammanfattning : Solar electricity is a promising energy technology for the future, and by using reflectors for concentrating solar radiation onto photovoltaic cells, the cost per produced kWh can be significantly reduced. The optical efficiency of a concentrating system determines the fraction of the incident energy that is transferred to the cells and depends on the optical properties of the system components. 18. Modelling optical properties of morphologically complex aerosols
Sammanfattning : The interpretation of remote sensing data of atmospheric aerosol particles requires a thorough understanding of the links between microphysical and optical properties. Morphologically complex aerosol models describe the particles’ morphology in detail. LÄS MER
19. Modelling and Characterisation of the Martensite Formation in Low Alloyed Carbon Steels
Sammanfattning : The current work contains experimental and theoretical work about the formation of martensite from the austenitic state of the steel Hardox 450. Simulation of rolling and subsequent quenching of martensitic steel plates requires a model that can account for previous deformation, current stresses and the temperature history, therefore dilatometry experiments were performed, with and without deformation. 20. Theory and Modelling of Functional Materials
Sammanfattning : The diverse field of material research has been steadily expanding with a great help from computational physics, especially in the investigation of the fundamental properties of materials. This has driven the computational physics to become one of the main branches of physics, allowing for density functional theory (DFT) to develop as one of the cornerstones of material research.
