  1. 16. The Foxf2 gene in development and disease

    Författare :Azadeh Reyahi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Foxf2; Pericyte; brain development; stroke;

    Sammanfattning : The Foxf2 gene in development and disease Azadeh Reyahi Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Gothenburg, Box 462, SE 405 30, Göteborg, Sweden Abstract In this thesis I present our recent data on the involvement and the mechanism of action of the forkhead transcription factor Foxf2 in development of the brain microvasculature, formation of the blood-brain barrier, control of the intestinal stem cell niche, and fusion of the secondary palate. The potential clinical signifi- cance of these findings is strengthened by a correlation between Foxf2 expres- sion and intestinal adenoma formation, and by association between genetic vari- ants in human FOXF2 and incident stroke. 2. 17. The Role of Paladin in Endothelial Cell Signaling and Angiogenesis

    Författare :Anja Nitzsche; Mats Hellström; Frank-Dietmar Böhmer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pald1; endothelium; lung; vascular permeability; phosphatase; angiogenesis; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels from a pre-existing vasculature, is crucial during development and for many diseases including cancer. Despite tremendous progress in the understanding of the angiogenic process, many aspects are still not fully elucidated. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Pericyte Influence on Drug Delivery Across the Blood-Brain Barrier : Implications for Therapy of Neurodegenerative Diseases

    Författare :Nebojsa Mihajlica; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Christer Betsholtz; William Elmquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood-brain barrier; pericytes; pericyte-deficiency; pharmacokinetics; small-molecular drugs; drug distribution; transporters; P-glycoprotein; tyrosine kinase inhibitors; Farmakokinetik och läkemedelsterapi; Pharmacokinetics and Drug Therapy;

    Sammanfattning : The blood-brain barrier (BBB) represents a complex interface between the brain parenchyma and systemic blood circulation, strictly controlling exchange of substances between the two sites. Pericytes are mural cells located on the abluminal membrane of the brain endothelium, involved in BBB formation and maintenance. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Molecular aspects of post-Chornobyl and sporadic papillary thyroid carcinoma

    Författare :Andrii Dinets; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :papillary thyroid carcinoma;

    Sammanfattning : Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) exhibits various molecular abnormalities, both when sporadic and radiation-related. PTC is still diagnosed in adult individuals who were younger than 18 years at the time of the Chornobyl accident in 1986 and lived within the contaminated area. LÄS MER
