  1. 11. Vaginal morphological changes in cervical cancer survivors

    Författare :Alexandra Hofsjö; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cervical cancer is globally the fourth most common cancer in women and has generally a good prognosis. Cervical cancer survivors report persistent changes in their sexual function, which result in considerable distress. The majority of new cases are diagnosed in young or middle-aged women. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Hormones and breast cancer : aspects on receptor expression and metabolism

    Författare :Lars Löfgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Breast cancer; fine needle aspiration biopsy; tamoxifen; megestrol acetate; SHBG; sex steroid hormone receptors; Syndecan-1;

    Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women in the western world. Sex steroid hormones are implied as risk factors but endocrine regimens are also used in the therapy of breast cancer. Current knowledge about the endocrine and metabolic effects of different treatments is incomplete. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Molecular characterization of Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex from Kampala, Uganda

    Författare :Benon Asiimwe; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Uganda is one of the countries with the highest burden of tuberculosis (TB) in Sub-Saharan Africa, ranked 16th among the 22 high-burden countries in the world. Poor peri-urban areas of developing countries with inadequate living conditions and a high prevalence of HIV infection have been implicated most in the increase of TB. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Upper Extremity Disorders - Epidemiology and Measures of Disability

    Författare :Christina Gummesson; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rehabilitation; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; revalidation; kinesitherapy; Physical medicine; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the prevalence and characteristics of long-lasting upper extremity symptoms in a general population and to study some methodological aspects of outcome assessment and reporting, including validation of a Swedish version of an upper extremity region-specific outcome instrument that potentially could be useful for assessing upper extremity disorders. A general health questionnaire was mailed to 3000 persons, randomly selected from a general population register; response rate 83%. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Supra-threshold hearing loss and wide dynamic range compression

    Författare :Henrik L Olsen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Hearing impairment; compression; hearing aids; modulated noise; speech intelligibility; temporal resolution; modulation transfer function;

    Sammanfattning : Cochlear hearing loss leads to deficits in many perceptual aspects, including threshold elevation (loss of sensitivity), reduction of auditory dynamic range (loudness recruitment) and problems with resolving sounds (loss of supra-threshold hearing). An ongoing debate is whether assessment of the individual supra-threshold hearing provides information which is likely to have an important influence on clinical decisions on signal processing strategies.
