11. Methane production in dairy cows : individual cow variability in methane production
Sammanfattning : Enteric methane (CH4) emissions vary between individual cows, and this variation is attributed to both animal and dietary factors. In addition, measurement technique of in vivo CH4 emissions from individual animals still represents a major challenge for successful emissions mitigation strategies. LÄS MER
12. Factors that Influence the Biochemical Methane Potential (BMP) Test : Steps towards the Standardisation of BMP Test
Sammanfattning : Anaerobic digestion (AD) has gained increasing attention nowadays as an approach for both waste treatment and renewable energy generation. Currently, many different types of materials can be used as feedstock for biogas production via AD process, but their biodegradability (based on methane yield, BDCH4) and potential to produce biogas might vary significantly, and these properties are key parameters that should be taken into consideration for economy, design and operation of a full-scale biogas plant during the selection of potential feedstock. 13. Anaerobic digestion of horse manure : renewable energy and plant nutrients in a systems perspective
Sammanfattning : In horse keeping horse manure is produced, which can be utilized as a fertilizer or considered a waste. Horse manure constitutes a resource in terms of both plant nutrients and energy. In addition energy policies and objectives aim at replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy sources. LÄS MER
14. Development of PET radioligands synthesized from in-target produced [11C]methane
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was two-fold. The first aim was to compare the specific radioactivity (SA) of positron emission tomography (PET) radioligands synthesized from in-target produced [11C]methane ([11C]CH4) and [11C]carbon dioxide ([11C]CO2). LÄS MER
15. Oats in the diet of dairy cows : milk production and enteric methane emissions
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate whether replacing barley with oats as a grain supplement for dairy cows could reduce enteric methane (CH4) emissions without compromising milk production. Barley is a more common grain supplement in Sweden, mainly due to higher tabulated feeding values suggesting higher milk production with barley than with oats. LÄS MER
