  1. 21. Wastewater discharges and microbial variability in a surface water source

    Författare :Johan Åström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; faecal indicators; pathogens; drinking-water; microbial risk assessment; variability; rainfall; catchment; wastewater; surface water; Hazardous events;

    Sammanfattning : Planning for drinking-water safety in surface waters includes a systematic assessment of hazards in the catchment, and microbial contamination is considered a major health risk. The aim of this thesis was to identify and characterize microbial hazardous events reported for River Göta älv, Sweden. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Antibiotic resistance in the environment: a contribution from metagenomic studies

    Författare :Johan Bengtsson-Palme; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; antibiotic resistance; metagenomics; bioinformatics; next generation sequencing; resistance selection;

    Sammanfattning : Antibiotic resistance accounts for hundreds of thousands of deaths annually, and its projected increase has made the WHO recognize it as a major global health threat. In the last decade, evidence has mounted suggesting that the environment plays an important role in the progression of resistance. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Proteomic profiles and gene expressions in the symbiotically competent cyanobacterium Nostoc sp. PCC 73102

    Författare :Liang Ran; Birgitta Bergman; Karl Forchhammer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nostoc PCC 73102; hormogonia; 2-DE; symbiosis; photo-autotrophy; heterotrophy; cell differentiation; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Nostoc PCC 73102 is an evolutionary important cyanobacterium with multiple phenotypic traits and symbiotic capacities. Based on two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry, a proteomic approach was developed in order to obtain protein profiles of this symbiotically competent cyanobacterium during three trophic types/life stages: free-living photo-autotrophic and diazotrophic growth conditions, dark heterotrophic conditions and hormogonium formation. 4. 24. Characterizing phenotypes of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and exploring anti-mycobacterial compounds through high content screening

    Författare :Sadaf Kalsum; Maria Lerm; Thomas Lundbäck; Annika Jenmalm; Lena Serrander; Priscille Bordin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Tuberculosis (TB), an airborne disease and one of the top 10 causes of death globally, is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb). Current standard therapy for TB treatment includes multiple drugs for a period of at least 6 months. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Adenoviral Control of RNAi/miRNA Pathways in Human Cells

    Författare :Ning Xu; Göran Akusjärvi; Fredrik Söderbom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adenovirus; RNAi; miRNA; VA RNA; Virology; Virologi;

    Sammanfattning : RNA interference (RNAi) is a diverse, conserved regulatory mechanism in eukaryotic cells, which silences the target gene expression in a homology-dependent manner. Although it has been well documented that RNAi is an antiviral mechanism in plants and insects, it is still unclear whether RNAi naturally limits viral infections in vertebrates. LÄS MER
