6. Microinstabilities in Advanced Tokamak and Stellarator Geometries
Sammanfattning : The anomalous particle and heat transport observed in magnetically confined plasmas is generally attributed to plasma turbulence driven by short-scale instabilities, called microinstabilities. Understanding the stability limits of microinstabilities and their dependency on the equilibrium configuration is of paramount importance in the effort to predict the performance of future fusion devices such as the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). 7. Modeling the Zeeman Effect in Planetary Radiative Transfer and Applications
Sammanfattning : Remote sensing is about retrieving distant physical properties from locally observed radiation. The first step to remote sensing is to describe, or model, the radiative transfer. LÄS MER
8. Energy relavant materials: Investigations based on first principles
Sammanfattning : Energy production, storage and efficient usage are all crucial factors for environmentally sound and sustainable future technologies. One important question concerns the refrigeration industry, where the energy efficiency of the presently used technologies is at best 40% of the theoretical Carnot limit. LÄS MER
9. A theoretical study of magnetism and its extension to finite temperatures in random alloys
Sammanfattning : This work presents new theoretical developments of atomistic spin simulations of magnetic materials at finite temperatures. Special focus is put on the description of longitudinal magnetic fluctuations and the application in random transition metal alloys. LÄS MER
10. Quasicrystal Approximants in the RE-Au-SM systems (RE = Gd, Tb, Ho, Yb; SM = Si, Ge) : Syntheses, structures and properties
Sammanfattning : In this study, new Tsai-type 1/1 quasicrystal approximants (ACs) in the RE-Au-SM systems (RE = Gd, Tb, Ho, Yb; SM = Si, Ge) were synthesized using high temperature synthesis techniques such as self-flux, arc-melting-annealing and novel arc-melting-self-flux methods. The syntheses not only provided appropriate samples for the intended structural and physical property measurements but could also be adapted to other systems, especially where crystal growth is a challenge.
