1. Synthesis of Biomimetic Systems for Proton and Electron Transfer Reactions in the Ground and Excited State
Sammanfattning : A detailed understanding of natural photosynthesis provides inspiration for the development of sustainable and renewable energy sources, i.e. a technology that is capable of converting solar energy directly into chemical fuels. This concept is called artificial photosynthesis. LÄS MER
2. Oxygen Vacancy Chemistry in Ceria
Sammanfattning : Cerium(IV) oxide (CeO2), ceria, is an active metal oxide used in solid oxide fuel cells and for the purification of exhaust gases in vehicle emissions control. Behind these technically important applications of ceria lies one overriding feature, namely ceria's exceptional reduction-oxidation properties. LÄS MER
3. Immobilisation of Ru-Based Molecular Catalysts for Electrochemical Water Oxidation
Sammanfattning : Artificial photosynthesis requires catalysts for efficient and selective conversions of small molecules. Molecular catalysts are advantageous to use in these instances as they offer precise control over chemical reactivity. LÄS MER
4. Carbothermal synthesis of nano-structured metal, carbides and nitrides, using solution processed precursors; from precursor to product
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes how solution chemical based carbothermal syntheses can be used for the synthesis of nanostructured zirconium carbide and nitride nanophase powders as well as a nickel-metal coating on NbC for use as a sintering agent. The focus is on the development of novel synthesis routes using atomic or small nanoscale level mixing of the metal oxide and carbon source in the starting precursors, enabling the use of lower synthesis temperatures and non-agglomerated nanosized powders. 5. Designing multicomponent alloy coatings for corrosion protection
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the design of metallic coatings for corrosion protection. The subject of the study was the new class of materials multicomponent alloys (MCAs, also known as high entropy alloys). They consist of near-equal concentrations of many (four or more) metals and are often reported to form a single phase with a simple crystal structure. LÄS MER
