Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two papers with somewhat different flavours. In Paper I we compute the étale cohomology ring H^*(X,Z/nZ) for X the ring of integers of a number field K. As an application, we give a non-vanishing formula for an invariant defined by Minhyong Kim. LÄS MER
12. Combinatorics and zeros of multivariate polynomials
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five papers in algebraic and enumerative combinatorics. The objects at the heart of the thesis are combinatorial polynomials in one or more variables. We study their zeros, coefficients and special evaluations. Hyperbolic polynomials may be viewed as multivariate generalizations of real-rooted polynomials in one variable. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns classical and quantum aspects of minimal manifolds embedded in flat Minkowski space. In particular, we study the Lie algebra of diffeomorphisms on 2 dimensional compact manifolds as well as discuss singularity formation for relativistic minimal surfaces in co-dimension one. LÄS MER
