31. Towards a flexible statistical modelling by latent factors for evaluation of simulated responses to climate forcings
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, using the principles of confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and the cause-effect concept associated with structural equation modelling (SEM), a new flexible statistical framework for evaluation of climate model simulations against observational data is suggested. The design of the framework also makes it possible to investigate the magnitude of the influence of different forcings on the temperature as well as to investigate a general causal latent structure of temperature data. 32. Interval cancers, positive predictive value for malignance and other early quality indicators in mammographic screening for breast cancer
Sammanfattning : The study was designed to evaluate early quality indicators in screening for breast cancer. lt comprised, (i) investigations of compliance, recall, referral, cancer detection, and interval cancer rates in the Östergötland screening programme of women aged 40-74 years; (ii) evaluation of the three-stage diagnostic procedure for pre-operative assessment of women with suspicious mammographic findings; (iii) comprehensive analysis of all invasive interval cancers detected; and (iv) investigation into how to reduce the number of interval cancers without a concomitant increase in false positives. 33. Hierarchical Scale Analysis of Images Using Phase Description
Sammanfattning : Scale analysis and description has over the last years become one of the major research field! The thesis describes a new algorithm which detects in what scale an event appears and also in what scale it disappears. In this way the scale space is subdivided into a number of intervals. LÄS MER
34. Performance Analysis and Optimization for Time Critical Networking
Sammanfattning : Future communication systems will be characterized by heterogeneous traffic and requirements. Time critical applications like cyberphysical systems, augmented and virtual reality, raise the need for a low-latency based network. At the same time, conventional devices requiring for high throughput will co-exist with time critical applications. LÄS MER
35. Distribution of expected utility in second-order decision analysis
Sammanfattning : In decision analysis maximising the expected utility is an often used approach in choosing the optimal alternative. But when probabilities and utilities are vague or imprecise expected utility is fraught with complications. LÄS MER
