  3. 3. Genomic and Peptidomic Characterization of the Developing Avian Brain

    Författare :Birger Scholz; Lennart Dencker; Eric Vilain; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Toxicology; Sex differentation; Sex determination; Sex chromosomes; Dosage Compensation; Genetic; Chickens; Coturnix; Gene Expression Profiling; Neuropeptides; Diencephalon; Toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Chicken and Japanese quail are commonly used models in developmental and sex specific neuroendocrine research. There is relatively little known about the mechanisms behind their sex specific brain development, especially regarding the impact of the sex chromosomes (male: ZZ, female ZW) in relation to gonadal hormones. 4. 4. Female coloration, egg carotenoids and reproductive success: gobies as a model system

    Författare :P. Andreas Svensson; Trond Amundsen; Jonathan Blount; Trondheim NTNU Department of Biology; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology; Evolutionary Biology; Evolutionsbiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In two-spotted gobies (Gobiusculus flavescens), females develop an orange belly as they approach sexual maturity. Toward the end of the single breeding season, males become rare and females compete for spawnings. Nest-holding males then prefer females with more colourful bellies and this trait has been suggested to act as a female ornament. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Gonad and ejaculate allocation in alternative reproductive tactics of salmon and trout with reference to sperm competition

    Författare :Tomislav Vladić; Michael Taborsky; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; alternative reproductive tactics; sperm competition; brown trout; Atlantic salmon; ATP; ejaculate expenditure; motility; sperm morphology; trade-off; loaded raffle; zoologi; Zoology;

    Sammanfattning : Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., and brown trout, Salmo trutta L., exhibit alternative male maturation phenotypes, anadromous and precociously mature parr, which commonly endure in sperm competition at the spawning grounds. LÄS MER
