6. Chemometric and signal processing methods for real time monitoring and modeling : applications in the pulp and paper industry
Sammanfattning : In the production of paper, the quality of the pulp is an important factor both for the productivity and for the final quality. Reliable real-time measurements of pulp quality are therefore needed. LÄS MER
7. Mechanical Pulp. Effects of Pretreatment and Wood Source on Fiber Separation and Pulp Properties
Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis concerns the mechanical pulping process and the effects of wood source and pretreatment conditions on the pulp properties. In the first part, the deformation of Norway spruce (Picea abies) wood samples was investigated under shear and torsional loading at different temperatures (20-95°C) and sulfonation conditions. 8. Quality Control of a Newsprint TMP Refining Process based on Refining Zone Temperature Measurements
Sammanfattning : The ultimate goal of this study was to examine the possibility of using temperature measurements for control purposes in a TMP refining process. The study was carried out in a commercial refiner line at Holmen Paper’s Hallsta Mill, were the primary stage refiner was equipped with temperature sensors. LÄS MER
9. Reduction of refining energy during mechanical pulping : using pressurised chip compression and sulphite pre-treatment
Sammanfattning : The effects of pressurised compressive chip pre-treatment and low dosage sulphite pre-treatment were evaluated for production of thermomechanical pulp in mill scale trials using Norway spruce (Picea abies) at the Braviken paper mill (Holmen Paper AB, Sweden). The general aim of the study was to improve the energy efficiency during the production of mechanical pulps suitable for news and improved news grade papers. LÄS MER
10. Low consistency refining of mechanical pulp : process conditions and energy efficiency
Sammanfattning : The thesis is focussed on low consistency (LC) refining of mechanical pulp. Theresearch included evaluations of energy efficiency, development of pulpproperties, the influence of fibre concentration on LC refining and effects of rotorposition in a two-zoned LC refiner. LÄS MER
