1. Deformation and fluid-flow in magma-poor margins : A study of the Tasna Ocean-Continent transition, SE Switzerland
Sammanfattning : In this study, interaction between fluids and deformation during the final stages of magma-poor rifting was investigated. The Tasna Ocean-Continent transition, located in the Swiss Alps, was studied and a large data set was obtained from profiles oriented perpendicular to two detachment faults. LÄS MER
2. Numerical modelling of fluid flow and particle transport in rough rock fracture during shear
Sammanfattning : The effects of different shearing processes and sample sizes on the fluid flow anisotropy and its impact on particle transport process in rough rock fractures are significant factors that need to be considered in the performance and safety assessments of underground nuclear waste repositories. The subjects, however, have not been adequately investigated previously in either laboratory experiments or numerical modeling. LÄS MER
3. Fluid flow in wood fiber network
Sammanfattning : Cellulose material is processed to pulp suspensions and MDF boards in order to produce products such as papers, magazines, laminate floors or door skins. A critical stage of these processes is when the cellulose fiber networks are compressed to specific densities and when most of the fluid originally positioned between and inside the fibers is forced to leave the network. 4. Topology optimization in fluid flow problems
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the topic of topology optimization in fluids is studied. With emphasis on modeling aspects, the general framework for formulating such problems is presented through a derivation of a sample problem. A survey of the literature, summarizing the developments in the area, forms the first part of the thesis. LÄS MER
5. The Prediction of Fluid Flow, Particle In-Flight and Coating Characteristics in Atmospheric Plasma Spraying
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to make a contribution to the development and application of models for the simulation and optimisation of plasma spray processes in production engineering. In particular, focus is placed on the development, combination and application of models for coating deposition and robot motion optimisation, the prediction of coating temperatures during deposit, the simulation of the plasma flow field, and in-flight characteristics of injected particles.
