  1. 1. The roles of transmission and distribution networks in integrating variable renewable electricity generation

    Författare :Joel Goop; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; electricity generation; demand-side management; energy systems modelling; power systems; variable renewables;

    Sammanfattning : Emission reduction targets, together with other factors, such as security of supply, are driving the expansion of variable renewable energy sources for electricity generation, mainly solar and wind power. Trading across the transmission grid is an important measure to handle the increased variability and to balance supply with demand. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The impact of wind power variability on the least-cost dispatch of units in the electricity generation system

    Författare :Lisa Göransson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wind power; intermittency; wind-thermal system; variability; cycling costs; electricity generation system; dispatch modeling; variation management;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the dynamics of electricity generation systems that involve high levels of wind power. Methods to account for wind power variability in electricity-dispatch models are explored, and the impact of wind power variability on the optimal output of the generation units, so as to meet the system load with the lowest possible cost (economic dispatch), is analyzed for several systems, for both regional and European cases. 3. 3. Approaches to scale-up CO2 emissions reduction in the energy supply sector in developing countries

    Författare :Wathanyu Amatayakul; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sectoral no-lose target; electricity generation; biomass; CO2 abatement; Thailand; CDM; developing countries; biofuel;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis, which consists of five papers, addresses two themes related to the need for a scale-up of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction in the energy sector in developing countries: (1) approaches to support developing countries in scaling-up emissions reduction, and (2) an approach to scale-up emissions reduction --cultivation of fuel wood to replace fossil fuels in electricity generation.In the first paper, the potential volume of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions reduction and reduction credits in the electricity sector under a sectoral crediting mechanism based on a sectoral no-lose, non-binding, target in the post-2012 period is assessed for seven high-emitting developing countries by means of different scenarios. 4. 4. Analyzing technological change using experience curves - a study of the combined cycle gas turbine

    Författare :Ulrika Claeson Colpier; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Experience curves; technology assessment.; combined cycle gas turbine; electricity-generation costs; learning curves; technological development;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to analyze and discuss the use of experience curves as a possible instrument for assessing future developments of a specific energy technology: the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT). The CCGT technology is expected to figure prominently in future energy systems. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Investigation of thermal biomass gasification for sustainable small scale rural electricity generation in Uganda

    Författare :Joseph Olwa; Torsten Fransson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :Tar; Gasification; Biomass; SRA - Energy; SRA - Energi;

    Sammanfattning : With the increasing need for renewable energy technologies in the world, biomass fuel transformation technology is growing towards meeting that need, among others. Challenges remain certain and new innovations are being tested in bid to overcome them with the application of biomass as energy source. LÄS MER
