16. Decomposition of soil organic matter : experimental and modelling studies of the importance of temperature and quality
Sammanfattning : The climate is changing and with it the capacity of soils to store carbon in all likelihood, since there is strong evidence that decomposition increases with increasing temperature. The soil contains about twice as much carbon as the atmosphere, so decreasing soil carbon will increase atmospheric CO₂ concentrations proportionally more, further contributing to temperature increase. 17. Low-temperature deposition of epitaxial transition metal carbide films and superlattices using C60 as carbon source
Sammanfattning : The transition metal carbides are chemical compounds with a unique set of propertiesused in many thin film applications. In this work, thin films of group 4-5 transitionmetal carbides and superlattices were deposited at low temperatures by simultaneousevaporation of C60 using either metal e-beam evaporation or d.c. magnetron sputtering. 18. Low-temperature carburizing/nitriding of austenitic stainless steels - Influence of alloy composition on microstructure and properties
Sammanfattning : Austenitic stainless steels are among the most used materials in applications where corrosion resistance is important, as the food, pharmaceutical, chemical, oil and gas industries. However, low hardness and poor tribological properties is often an obstacle for their applicability. LÄS MER
19. High pressure and high temperature behavior of TiAlN
Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis mainly reports about the behavior of arc evaporated TiAlN at high pressures and high temperatures. The extreme conditions have been obtained in metal cutting, multi anvil presses or diamond anvil cells. Several characterization techniques have been used, including x-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. LÄS MER
20. Investigating Hydrogenous Behavior of Zintl Phases : Interstitial Hydrides, Polyanionic Hydrides, Complex Hydrides, Oxidative Decomposition
Sammanfattning : This thesis is an investigation into the hydrogenous behavior of Zintl phases. Zintl phases are comprised of an active metal (i.e alkali, alkaline earth, and rare earth) and a p-block element. The discussion gives an overview of the influence hydrogen affects the electronic and geometric structure of Zintl phases and subsequent properties. LÄS MER
