  1. 1. The Klimontovich description of complex plasma systems : Low frequency electrostatic modes, spectral densities of fluctuations and collision integrals

    Författare :Panagiotis Tolias; Lars Blomberg; Carmine Castaldo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; complex plasmas; dusty plasmas; Klimontovich equations; kinetic theory; dust acoustic waves; collision integrals;

    Sammanfattning : Plasmas seeded with solid particulates of nanometer to micron sizes (complex plasma systems) are a ubiquitous feature of intergalactic, interstellar and planetary environments but also of plasma processing applications or even fusion devices. Their novel aspects compared with ideal multi-component plasmas stem from (i) the large number of elementary charges residing on the grain surface, (ii) the variability of the charge over mass ratio of the dust component, (iii) the inherent openness and dissipative nature of such systems. 2. 2. Analysis and control of transitional shear flows using global modes

    Författare :Shervin Bagheri; Dan Henningson; Alessandro Bottaro; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fluid mechanics; flow control; hydrodynamic stability; global modes; jet in crossflow; flat-plate boundary layer; laminar-turbulent transition; Arnoldi method; Koopman modes; balanced truncation; direct numerical simulations.; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis direct numerical simulations are used to investigate two phenomenain shear flows: laminar-turbulent transition over a flat plate and periodicvortex shedding induced by a jet in cross flow. The emphasis is on understanding and controlling the flow dynamics using tools from dynamical systems and control theory. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Children with complex communication needs : The parents' perspective

    Författare :Gonda Pickl; Jane Brodin; Sophia Kalman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; children with complex communication needs; augmentative and alternative communication; parents’ views on their children’s communication; Disability research; Handikappsforskning; specialpedagogik; Special Education;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this dissertation is to increase the understanding of how parents of children with severe and multiple disabilities and complex communication needs view their children’s communication and their communication aids. The participating children differ in age, in their developmental and communicative levels as well as in their socio-cultural backgrounds, but have in common that they all are using one or more modes of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), involving no, low or high technology. 4. 4. Holographic descriptions of collective modes in strongly correlated media

    Författare :Marcus Tornsö; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; plasmonics; strongly correlated media; holography; gauge gravity duality; graphene; strong coupling; quasinormal modes;

    Sammanfattning : Solving the puzzle of high temperature superconductivity may be one of the most desired scientific breakthroughs of our time, as access to room temperature superconductivity could revolutionize society as we know it. In this thesis, we strive to increase the theoretical understanding of such matter, by studying the phase above, in temperature, the superconducting phase - the "strange metal". LÄS MER

  5. 5. Composite Cryogels: Stationary Phase for Separation of Complex Media

    Författare :Solmaz Hajizadeh; Bioteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Composite cryogel; Complex media; Purification; Chromatography; Environmental application; Molecularly imprinted polymer;

    Sammanfattning : Demands for efficient, economical and fast separation and purification methods for various target molecules have led to the development of new techniques and materials for bioseparation processes. Separation can be carried out in both batch and chromatographic modes. LÄS MER
