  1. 11. Seagrasses in warming oceans : physiological and biogeochemical responses

    Författare :Rushingisha George; Mats Björk; Martin Gullström; Teresa Alcoverro Pedrola; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Global warming; greenhouse gas; warming oceans; temperate; tropical; coastal waters; Western Indian Ocean WIO ; tidal variability; seagrass; photosynthesis; respiration; photorespiration; biogeochemical processes; sulphide; methane; nitrous oxide; carbon dioxide; Plant Physiology; växtfysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The exponential increase of atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations over the past 50 years has caused a rise in the global average temperature by more than 1ºC above pre-industrial levels. Ninety-three percent of this heat energy has been absorbed and stored by the oceans, increasing their temperatures, particularly in surface waters. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Influence of cyanobacterial blooms on coastal fish recruitment

    Författare :Karl-Johan Persson; Catherine Legrand; Markku Viitasalo; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cyanobacteria; coastal fish recruitment; Akvatisk ekologi; Aquatic Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Cyanobacteria are the oldest oxygen-producing organisms on Earth and can be found in almost every terrestrial and aquatic habitat. Their long evolutionary history has enabled them to develop diverse adaptations in order to increase their survival in environments subjected to natural and anthropogenic changes. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Testing palaeomagnetic and 14C based geochronological methods in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Bryan Lougheed; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; coastal; geochronology; palaeomagnetic secular variation; PSV; radiocarbon; 14C; reservoir age; R t ; ΔR; salinity; δ18O; geomagnetic field; Holocene; deglacial; Fennoscandia.;

    Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is a continental shelf sea that is influenced by both river runoff and marine water. The two water masses are vertically stratified in the Baltic Sea, resulting in a positive, estuarine circulation system, which has undergone changes in the past due to isostatic uplift of the Baltic basin. 5. 15. Bioaccumulation and biological effects of organic contaminants in Icelandic coastal waters

    Författare :Halldóra Skarphéđinsdóttir; Åke Granmo; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Miljögifter; Marine Ecotoxicology; marin ekotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, studies on organic contamination from both diffuse and point sources in Icelandic waters are presented. The aim was to investigate bioaccumulation and biological effects of the contaminants or biomarkers, and their applicability in environmental marine coastal monitoring, especially in areas with moderate or low levels of contamination such as Iceland.
