  1. 1. Probing quantum and classical noise in nano circuits

    Författare :Arsalan Pourkabirian; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transmon; vacuum fluctuations; circuit-QED; SET; dynamical Casimir effect; two-level fluctuator; artificial atom; SQUID; charge noise;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents measurements of classical and quantum noise in nano circuits.The first part of the thesis, covers extensive measurements on charge noise sources.Low-frequency charge noise with the power spectrum close to 1/f(wherefis thefrequency) has been observed in a variety of systems. 2. 2. The growth of waves by wind as a problem in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics

    Författare :Anthony Bonfils; John Wettlaufer; Kristian Gustafsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; out-of-equilibrium system; fluctuation spectrum; oscillatory force; classical Casimir effect; non-linear waves; wave turbulence; wind-wave coupling.; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In 1948, Casimir predicted a net attractive force between two perfectly conducting parallel plates due to electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations. By analogy, the interaction of two ships on a wavy sea has been named Maritime Casimir effect. This is an example of force generation in non-equilibrium systems. LÄS MER

  3. 3. A study of finite-size, non-perturbative and anisotropic effects on the Lifshitz-van der Waals forces and torque with material dielectric responses from first-principles calculations

    Författare :Priyadarshini Thiyam; Clas Persson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lifshitz-van der Waals forces; Casimir torque; optical calculations with density functional theory; phosphorus; phosphorene;

    Sammanfattning : The van der Waals and the Casimir-Lifshitz forces are forces of attraction that exist between neutral polarizable bodies due to quantum fluctuations. They can be repulsive depending on the material properties and the geometry of the system. LÄS MER
