  1. 1. NMR Studies of Colloidal Systems in and out of Equilibrium

    Författare :Pavel V. Yushmanov; Peter Stilbs; Terence Gosgrove; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stopped-flow NMR; temperature-jump NMR; crossrelaxation; NMR; NMR probe; fluorosurfactant; micellar kinetics; micellar structure; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The Thesis describes (i) the development of add-on instrumentation extending the capabilities of conventional NMR spectrometers and (ii) the application of the designed equipments and techniques for investigating various colloidal systems. The new equipments are: Novel designs of stopped-flow and temperature–jump inserts intended for conventional Bruker wide-bore superconductive magnets. LÄS MER

  2. 2. The growth of waves by wind as a problem in nonequilibrium statistical mechanics

    Författare :Anthony Bonfils; John Wettlaufer; Kristian Gustafsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; out-of-equilibrium system; fluctuation spectrum; oscillatory force; classical Casimir effect; non-linear waves; wave turbulence; wind-wave coupling.; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In 1948, Casimir predicted a net attractive force between two perfectly conducting parallel plates due to electromagnetic vacuum fluctuations. By analogy, the interaction of two ships on a wavy sea has been named Maritime Casimir effect. This is an example of force generation in non-equilibrium systems. LÄS MER

  3. 3. ALPACA - A kinetic theory Monte Carlo event generator for heavy ion collisions

    Författare :Robin Törnkvist; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ALPACA; QCD effective kinetic theory; event generators; heavy-ion physics; Proton-proton collisions; small system collectivity; phenomemology;

    Sammanfattning : Recent measurements of collective effect-like signals in small collision systems has highlighted the need for new models to explain these phenomena. One good candidate for such a model is the AMY QCD effective kinetic theory, which is valid for systems in- and out-of-equilibrium. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Interacting fermions and non-equilibrium properties of one-dimensional many-body systems

    Författare :Per Moosavi; Edwin Langmann; Eddy Ardonne; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Sammanfattning : Recent experimental progress on ultracold atomic gases have opened up the possibility to simulate many-body systems out of equilibrium. We consider such a system described by the Luttinger model, which is a model of interacting fermions in one spatial dimension.It is well known that the Luttinger model is exactly solvable using bosonization. 5. 5. Order in Strongly Correlated Quasi-One-Dimensional Systems : Solving Higher-Dimensional Systems Combining Matrix-Product-State Methods and Mean-Field Theory

    Författare :Gunnar Bollmark; Adrian Kantian; Annica M. Black-Schaffer; Fabian Heidrich-Meisner; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Superconductivity; strongly correlated systems; matrix-product states; quasi-one-dimensional; Hubbard model; mean-field theory; first-principles calculations.; Fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Since their discovery the understanding of unconventional superconductors (USCs) has posed a great challenge in condensed matter physics. One central problem, both of theory and experiment, lies in determining the microscopic origin of electron pairing in such systems. LÄS MER
