  1. 1. Characterization of Substance P (SP) Aminoterminal SP (1-7) Binding in Brain Regions and Spinal Cord of the Male Rat : Studies on the Interaction with Opioid Related Pathways

    Författare :Milad Botros; Fred Nyberg; Tsukasa Sakurada; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biological research on drug dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning;

    Sammanfattning : Binding sites for substance P(1-7), SP(1-7) have been identified and characterized for the first time in crude membrane fraction from rat CNS using tritiated ([3H]) SP(1-7) as tracer. These putative receptors were investigated in relation to their affinity for tachykinins, opioid peptides and sigma receptor ligands. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Preproenkephalin Gene and mRNA : Studies of Structure, Function, Cocaine Responses in an Animal Model, and Genetic Association with Human Opiate Addiction

    Författare :Karl Steven LaForge; Fred Nyberg; Peter S. Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biological research on drug dependence; Neuropeptides; Endogenous opioid system; Drug addiction; Heroin; Cocaine; Gene expression; Genetic association; Biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological research on drug dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning;

    Sammanfattning : The endogenous opioid enkephalin neuropeptides are mediators of pain perception and have been implicated in human addictions. The preproenkephalin gene and its mRNA have also provided many examples of tissue- and species-specific variations in mRNA structure produced through a variety of transcriptional and post-transcriptional mechanisms. 3. 3. Levodopa- and Neuroleptic-Induced Dyskinesias : Studies on Pharmacological Modification and Processing of Opioid Neuropeptides

    Författare :Rebecka Klintenberg; Alan Crossman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biological research on drug dependence; Opioid peptides; dyskinesia; Parkinson s disease; mass spectrometry; metabolism; Biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological research on drug dependence; Biologisk beroendeforskning; biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological Research on Drug Dependence;

    Sammanfattning : Dyskinesias or abnormal involuntary movements are a debilitating complication of long-term levodopa treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD) that is widely experienced and may compromise the efficacy of the drug therapy. Tardive dyskinesia is another important adverse effect seen with antipsychotic drug treatment. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Parasite on Crayfish : Characterisation of Their Pathogenesis, Host Interactions and Diversity

    Författare :Eakaphun Bangyeekhun; Anders Tunlid; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Crayfish; Parasite; Oomycete; Prophenoloxidase; Peroxinectin; Aphanomyces astaci; Psorospermium haecheli; White spot syndrome virus; Zoofysiologi; Animal physiology; Zoofysiologi; biologisk beroendeforskning; Biological Research on Drug Dependence;

    Sammanfattning : The crayfish plague refractory crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, which can harbour the fungal parasite within melanotic sheath, are found to constitutively express the gene encoding for prophenoloxidase (proPO) after mimicking parasite attack. In contrast, the susceptible crayfish, Astacus astacus, responds to the parasite by increased levels of proPO transcript, particularly in the semigranular haemocytes. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common high-grade brain tumor diagnosed in patients who are more than 50 years of age. The standard of care treatment is surgery, followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The median life expectancy of patients is only between 12 to 15 months after receiving current treatment regimes.
