26. New approaches to concentration, desalting and separation of biopolymers in capillary electrophoresis
Sammanfattning : In the first part of the thesis five new on-tube methods for concentration and desalting ofampholytes, such as peptides and proteins, are described in Papers I and II. The methods arebased on the fact that electrophoretic migration velocities decrease upon a decrease in theabsolute value of the zeta potential of a solute and the pore size of the electrophoresis mediumand upon an increase in the cross section of the electrophoresis chamber, the viscosity and theelectrical conductivity of the electrophoresis medium. 27. Chromatographic studies of interactions between solutes, lipid bilayers and the glucose transporter Glut1
Sammanfattning : It is advantageous to analyze solute interactions with biological membranes by chromatography on stationary phases that mimic the membrane structures. In the present work, liposomes, proteoliposomes, human red cells and red cell membrane vesicles were immobilized for analyses ofinteractions between solutes (peptides, drugs, inhibitors and glucose), lipid bilayers and theglucose transporter Glut1. 28. Discovery and evaluation of direct acting antivirals against hepatitis C virus
Sammanfattning : Until recently, the standard therapy for hepatitis C treatment has been interferon and ribavirin. Such treatment has only 50% efficacy and is not well tolerated. The emergence of new drugs has increased the treatment efficacy to 90%. LÄS MER
29. Protein Misfolding in Human Diseases
Sammanfattning : There are several diseases well known that are due to aberrant protein folding. These types of diseases can be divided into three main categories:Loss-of-function diseasesGain-of-toxic-function diseasesInfectious misfolding diseases Most loss-of-function diseases are caused by aberrant folding of important proteins. 30. Diving into short linear motifs : Large-scale identification of endogenous and host-pathogen protein-protein interactions and further characterized by deep mutational scanning
Sammanfattning : Short linear motifs (SLiMs) are protein-protein interaction sites that play an essential role in distinct cellular processes. Those interactions are challenging to capture by common high-throughput methods. LÄS MER
