  1. 11. Environmental assessment of emerging technologies: the case of biopolymers

    Författare :Selim Nouri; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; life cycle assessment; cost assessment; environmental assessment; process modeling; biopolymer;

    Sammanfattning : Current efforts to mitigate climate change, using renewable resources and reducing waste, drives the development of new industrial processes. In this study we examine the technologies for conversion of biomass to plastics. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Life Cycle Assessment of Building Products. Case Studies and Methodology

    Författare :Åsa Jönsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VOCs; environmental assessment; floorings; methods; LCA; concrete; indoor climate; Life Cycle Assessment; structural frames; building materials; steel; tools;

    Sammanfattning : The main objectives of this thesis were to demonstrate how Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) may be applied to building products, to describe what methodological LCA issues are specific to building products, to work out solutions to some of these issues and to relate LCA to other environmental assessment methods that may be applied to building products. First, in a literature study, the state of the art in the field of environmental assessment of building products is described, and the five articles constituting the thesis are put into context. 3. 13. Lifetime Performance Assessment of Thermal Systems : Studies on Building, Solar and Disctrict Heating Applications

    Författare :Bojan Stojanovic; Christer Sjöström; Per Jostein Hovde; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lifetime performance; degradation; assessment; modelling; field exposure; thermal components and system; Building engineering; Byggnadsteknik; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The main questions today concerning thermal systems are their economical and environmental impacts. These entities are generally, at present, assessed on the basis of operation performances of newly installed/designed systems, during an assumed lifetime period. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Solar Variability Assessment and Grid Integration : Methodology Development and Case Studies

    Författare :David Lingfors; Joakim Widén; Uwe Zimmermann; Eva Wäckelgård; Tobias Boström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Solar variability; Photovoltaics; Grid integration; GIS; Distributed generation; Engineering Science; Teknisk fysik;

    Sammanfattning : During the 21st century there has been a tremendous increase in grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) capacity globally, due to falling prices and introduction of economic incentives. PV systems are in most cases small-scale, installed on residential dwellings, which means that the power production is widely distributed and close to the end-user of electricity. LÄS MER

  5. 15. In-situ assessment of timber structures - Assessment methods and case studies

    Författare :Thomas Lechner; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-destructive testing NDT ; historical structures; density; In-situ assessment; timber structures; mechanical properties; assessment methods; X-ray;

    Sammanfattning : In the assessment of timber structures, diagnostic investigations with reference to the condition and structural performance of these structures are necessary and often require appropriate health monitoring techniques. This thesis covers four aspects within the research area of the in-situ assessment of timber structures based on scientific knowledge and guidelines to perform assessment of existing timber structures:IDetermination of density of wood with portable X-rayThe mechanical performance of timber is often strongly related to the density of wood.
