1. Adaptive Solvers for High-Dimensional PDE Problems on Clusters of Multicore Processors
Sammanfattning : Accurate numerical solution of time-dependent, high-dimensional partial differential equations (PDEs) usually requires efficient numerical techniques and massive-scale parallel computing. In this thesis, we implement and evaluate discretization schemes suited for PDEs of higher dimensionality, focusing on high order of accuracy and low computational cost. LÄS MER
2. Three-dimensional electron diffraction for studying order, disorder and flexibility in metal-organic frameworks
Sammanfattning : Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) represent a class of 3D crystalline porous materials composed of organic linkers and metal nodes. Over the years, tens of thousands of MOF architectures have been developed, addressing various applications such as gas storage and separation, catalysis, chemical sensing, ion exchange and drug delivery. 3. Modeling colloidal nanoparticles: From growth to deposition
Sammanfattning : In recent decades metal nanoparticles (NPs) have been the subject of intense research. The interest stems from the NPs physicochemical properties that can be conveniently tuned through, e.g., their size, shape or composition. LÄS MER
4. Complex Phase Behavior in Thermoelectric Mg2Si1-xSnx Alloys and Development of Transient Plane Source Method for Structural Characterization
Sammanfattning : The thermoelectric effect was discovered nearly 200 years ago, but it started to be utilized for waste heat recovery only fairly recently. From an economical point of view, such applications requires a cheap and efficient material, which is able to convert heat energy into electricity. LÄS MER
5. Localised Radial Basis Function Methods for Partial Differential Equations
Sammanfattning : Radial basis function methods exhibit several very attractive properties such as a high order convergence of the approximated solution and flexibility to the domain geometry. However the method in its classical formulation becomes impractical for problems with relatively large numbers of degrees of freedom due to the ill-conditioning and dense structure of coefficient matrix.
