6. Highly-filled biocomposites: modelling, processing, and characterization
Sammanfattning : The use of polymer with natural fiber reinforcements is expected to increase significantly. This can be noted in several industrial sectors of strategic importance for Sweden, such as automotive, packaging, construction, and furniture industries. LÄS MER
7. Characterisation of thermally modified wood for use as component in biobased building materials
Sammanfattning : The building sector shows growing interest in biobased building materials. Wood components, here defined as ground or milled wood, i.e. by-products (residuals/residues) from wood processing, such as sawdust or shavings, are valuable raw materials for new types of durable biocomposites suitable for outdoor building applications. 8. Deformation and Fracture Behavior of Transparent Wood-Polymer Biocomposites
Sammanfattning : Transparent wood-polymer biocomposites (TWPBs) are interesting wood-based materials with a unique combination of optical transmittance and mechanical properties. The wood substrate is delignified (removal of lignin) while the wood microstructure is preserved. LÄS MER
9. Additive-Driven Improvements in Interfacial Properties and Processing of TMP-Polymer Composites
Sammanfattning : Efforts to address environmental concerns have resulted in new regulations designed to plan the reduction of plastic and synthetic polymer usage, necessitating the search for sustainable natural alternatives with comparable cost-effectiveness and mechanical performance. Thermomechanical pulp (TMP) fibres are one of the most affordable natural fibres that have no chemical refining in production, production have a high yield of 90-98% and TMP fibres have been demonstrated to improve the mechanical characteristics (strength, stiffness and toughness) of wood-polymer composites (WPCs) compared to the pure polymer. 10. Thermoset resins using technical lignin as a base constituent
Sammanfattning : The need to find sustainable paths for our society is imminent to tackle environmental concerns of today. The majority of all plastic materials are produced from crude oil but in the future a much larger portion must originate from renewable resources to address some of these problems. LÄS MER
