11. Transition in Particle-laden Flows
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the study of laminar to turbulent transition of particle laden flows. When a flow becomes turbulent, the drag increases one order of magnitude compared to a laminar flow, therefore, much research is devoted to understand and influence the transition. LÄS MER
12. Model predictions of turbulent gas-particle shear flows
Sammanfattning : A turbulent two-phase flow model using kinetic theory of granularflows for the particle phase is developed and implmented in afinite element code. The model can be used for engineeringapplications. However, in this thesis it is used to investigateturbulent gas-particle flows through numerical simulations. LÄS MER
13. Numerical Modelling of Subcooled Nucleate Boiling for Thermal Management Solutions Using OpenFOAM
Sammanfattning : Two-phase cooling solutions employing subcooled nucleate boiling flows e.g. thermosyphons, have gained a special interest during the last few decades. This interest stems from their enhanced ability to remove extremely high heat fluxes, while keeping a uniform surface temperature. LÄS MER
14. Numerical stability studies of one-phase and immiscible two-phase jets and wakes
Sammanfattning : The initial linear instability growth of two-dimensional plane wakes and jetsis investigated, by temporal two-dimensional global modes, and local spatialstability analysis. Comparisons are also made to experiments, direct numericalsimulations, and methods designed for weakly-non-parallel flows. LÄS MER
15. Modelling air―water flows in bottom outlets of dams
Sammanfattning : If air is entrained in a bottom outlet of a dam in an uncontrolled way, the resulting air pockets may cause problems such as blowback, blowout and loss of discharge capacity. In order to provide guidance for bottom outlet design and operation, this study examines how governing parameters affect air entrainment, air-pocket transport and de-aeration and the surrounding flow structure in pipe flows.
