  1. 1. Air-pocket transport in conjunction with bottom-outlet conduits for dams

    Författare :Ting Liu; Anders Wörman; James Yang; Staffan Lundström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Air-water two-phase flow; critical velocity; diameter effect; roughness; VOF model; bottom outlet; experiment;

    Sammanfattning : Undesired air entrainment in bottom outlet conduits of dams may cause pressure transients, leading to conduit vibrations, blowback, discharge pulsation and even cavitation, and jeopardize the operational safety. Due to design limitations or construction costs, it is impossible to create an air free environment in a pressurized pipe. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Modelling air―water flows in bottom outlets of dams

    Författare :Ting Liu; James Yang; Anders Wörman; Michael Pfister; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Air pocket; Air entrainment; Bottom outlet; Critical velocity; Critical submergence; CFD; Experiment; Vortex; PIV; Two-phase air―water flow; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : If air is entrained in a bottom outlet of a dam in an uncontrolled way, the resulting air pockets may cause problems such as blowback, blowout and loss of discharge capacity. In order to provide guidance for bottom outlet design and operation, this study examines how governing parameters affect air entrainment, air-pocket transport and de-aeration and the surrounding flow structure in pipe flows. 3. 3. Numerical Study of the Gas Flow and Heat Transfer during Electromagnetic Stirring and Post Combustion in EAFs

    Författare :Niloofar Arzpeyma; Pär Jönsson; Dongyuan Sheng; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EMS; EAF; post combustion; heat transfer; duct system;

    Sammanfattning : The effect of electromagnetic stirring on scrap melting and post combustion in two different electric arc furnaces (EAFs) have been studied using numerical modelling. The effect of electromagnetic stirring on melting of a piece of scrap located at the eccentric bottom tapping (EBT) region of an EAF has been studied. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Three-Dimensional Simulation and Physical Modelling of Flows in Detention Tanks - Studies of Flow Pattern, Residence Time and Sedimentation

    Författare :Åsa Adamsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tracer study; pond; numerical simulation; particle tracking; CFD; bed shear stress; storage tank; stormwater; detention tank; flow pattern;

    Sammanfattning : Improving effluent water quality to receiving waters using stormwater ponds and storage tanks is acknowledged to be an effective method. The performance of the method depends however on flow conditions such as velocity distribution, short-circuiting currents and the volume through which the influent water flows, the so called effective volume. 5. 5. Climate and geographical influence on the performance of infiltration-based facilities for managing runoff – Temporal and spatial variability

    Författare :Ivan Mantilla; Maria Viklander; Tone Merete Muthanna; Kelsey Flanagan; Vegard Nielsen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Green infrastructure; hydrological performance; infiltration capacity; climatic pattern; saturated hydraulic conductivity; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change is expected to lead to more intense and severe rainfall events in the future, significantly increasing the risk of urban flooding. This change, characterized by spatial and temporal shifts in precipitation patterns, presents a challenge to the capacity of existing urban drainage systems, which may lead to higher runoff volumes than they were initially designed to handle.
