6. Metabolism-dependent activation of food and environmental mutagens in endothelial cells
Sammanfattning : The endothelial cells of blood vessels have been proposed as a target for toxic effects ofxenobiotics in the cardiovascular system. In the present studies, induction of cytochromeP450 1A (CYP1A) enzymes and metabolic activation of food and environmentalmutagens were examined in endothelial cells of rodents, birds, and humans. 7. Understanding of molecular mechanisms and improving of adventitous root formation in apple
Sammanfattning : Adventitious root formation is essential for vegetative propagation, which is the main method for propagation of many horticultural crops, especially woody species. For propagation of apple rootstocks, adventitious root formation is often a limiting step. LÄS MER
8. Laccase from a Litter Degrading Fungus: Evaluation for Environmental Applications and Modification of Lignin to a Bioadhesive
Sammanfattning : Laccase, the phenol oxidizing enzyme, was first described towards the end of the 19th century from the wound sap of the lacquer tree Rhus vernicifera. The enzyme has the widest distribution in nature among the multicopper oxidases. It catalyzes single electron transfer oxidation in the presence of molecular oxygen producing water as by-product. 9. A Mode Switching Modelling Philosophy
Sammanfattning : The thesis presents a modelling methodology for the systematic derivation of mathematical behaviour mod els of engineering systems , i. e. systems constructed by engineers. The first part presents the theoretical and philosophical foundation underlying a dass of methods generally referred to as physical modelling. LÄS MER
10. Induced defence responses in Picea abies triggered by Heterobasidion annosum s.l
Sammanfattning : Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.)Karst.] is a key tree species for forest industry in Europe and stem and butt rot caused by Heterobasidion parviporum (Fr.) Niemelä & Korhonen is one of its major disease problems. LÄS MER
