26. Dynamic Textile Patterns: designing with smart textiles
Sammanfattning : New smart textile materials have been investigated and show that today`s textile patterns can be designed to offer more than traditional textile patterns do. The prototypes of dynamic textile patterns designed in this thesis are brought about in a new design process that takes smart textile materials into consideration. LÄS MER
27. Repetition Recurrence Return
Sammanfattning : Repetition is part of our everyday lives: it is all around us, in patterns, art, and habits like having a cup of tea or getting dressed each morning. Repetition, recurrence, and return are also fundamental in nature – there are shifts in the seasons and regular, rhythmic elements, such as the weather, that occur over and over again. LÄS MER
28. Designing for changeability in textiles
Sammanfattning : The tendency to wear out and change is inherent in most materials, yet textiles are usually designed to retain a single expression. Within an experimental, practical work, materials that are inherently changeable were used to create woven and knitted structures in order to approach textiles from the perspective of changeability and explore what this might mean for the field of textile design. 29. Textile influence : exploring the role of textiles in the product design process
Sammanfattning : Textile materials and textile design are a part of countless products in our surroundings, as well as of diverse design fields and industries, with very different material traditions and working methods. Textile materials and industry have undergone many changes during recent decades, in terms of how and where textiles are produced, and what textiles can be and do; in much the same way, the design practices that textiles are involved in have also developed. 30. The Language of Textiles : Description and Judgement on Textile Pattern Composition
Sammanfattning : The present study concerns ways to describe, judge and discuss aesthetic qualities of designed textile patterns. Specific aims were to study how colours and compositions used in Old Amish Quilts can be systematically described, to study how simple and complex patterns in printed textile fabrics are perceived and expressed verbally and to study judgements, concepts and values in relation to designed textile patterns as expressed by schoolchildren, consumers, teachers of textile handicraft and designers.
