  1. 1. Railway Wheel Flats. Martensite Formation, Residual Stresses, and Crack Propagation

    Författare :Johan Jergeus; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Nyckelord :sliding contact; metallographic investigation; crack propagation; thermal shock; constitutive modelling; phase transformations; railway wheel flats; full-scale field experiments; transformation plasticity; tread damage; residual stresses; spalling; martensite formation;

    Sammanfattning : A railway wheel flat is a flat spot on the rolling surface of a wheel caused by its unintentional sliding on the rail. The reason for the sliding may be poorly adjusted, frozen or defect brakes, or too high braking forces in relation to the available wheel/rail adhesion. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Residual stresses in dental composites

    Författare :Philippe Lingois; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymera konstruktionsmaterial; Polymeric Composite Materials;

    Sammanfattning : In several European countries, dental composites are replacing mercury-containing amalgams as the most common restorative materials. The problems with dental composites are they can induce pain for the patient, fracture of the tooth, gap between the tooth and the filling what will induce secondary caries. The main reason is residual stresses. LÄS MER

  3. 3. On the Residual Stresses and Microstructure Formation of Aluminum-Silicon Cast Alloys

    Författare :Mohsen Sadrossadat; Sten Johansson; Ru Lin Peng; Ingvar L Svensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Al-Si alloys; residual stresses; microstructure; microsegregation; nucleation behavior; modeling; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Sammanfattning : Cast aluminum-silicon alloys are being increasingly used in automotive and aerospace industries for critical structure applications because of their excellent castability, low density, acceptable mechanical properties and low cost. Different casting and heat treatment parameters largely affect the microstructure and residual stress of the components, which in turn, has a great impact on their mechanical properties. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Residual Stress Analysis and Fatigue of Welded Structures

    Författare :Zuheir Barsoum; Jack Samuelsson; Jan Langkjear Hansen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; welding; fatigue; finite element analysis; fracture mechanics; residual stresses; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : This licentiate thesis is generally concerned with the fatigue of welded structures. Several topics related to fatigue of welded structures are treated such as; weld defects and their influence on fatigue performance of welded structures, fatigue life prediction using LEFM (Linear Elastic Fracture Mechanics), fatigue testing, welding simulation, residual stress prediction and measurement and their influence on fatigue. 5. 5. Comprehensive numerical analysis of stress state in adhesive layer of joint including thermal residual stress and material non-linearity

    Författare :Nawres Jabar Al-Ramahi; Roberts Joffe; Janis Varna; Lars Mikkelsen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Single-lap adhesive joint; Double-lap adhesive joint; Unbalanced bi-material DCB; Residual thermal stresses; Finite element method; Crack path; Crack closure; Polymeric Composite Materials; Polymera kompositmaterial;

    Sammanfattning : The main objective of this work is to improve understanding of the stress state in the adhesive layer of bonded joints and identify key parameters which govern performance of adhesive joints. This information is crucial for the prediction of the failure initiation and propagation with the further estimation of the durability and strength of adhesively bonded structures. LÄS MER
