  1. 1. Investigating the molecular mechanism of photoprotection, qH, in Arabidopsis thaliana

    Författare :Pierrick Bru; Alizée Malnoë; Stefano Caffarri; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photosynthesis; Photoprotection; non photochemical quenching; qH; genetic screen; genome editing; biology; biologi; Biochemistry; biokemi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Photoprotection mechanisms in plants play a crucial role in maintaining photosystem integrity and preventing photooxidative damage. In this study, we aimed to identify new molecular players involved in the qH process, a sustained photoprotective mechanism. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Light, stress and herbivory : from photoprotection to trophic interactions using Arabidopsis thaliana as a model organism

    Författare :Martin Frenkel; Jon Moen; Stefan Jansson; Don Cipollini; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis thaliana; photoprotection; herbivory; light-stress; jasmonate; fitness; FDE; dual-choice; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Photosynthesis is the most important process for nearly all life on earth. Photosynthetic organisms capture and transfer light energy from the sun into chemical energy which in turn provides a resource base for heterotrophic organisms. Natural light regimes are irregular and vary over magnitudes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The xanthophyll cycle, its enzymes, pigments and regulation

    Författare :Marie Eskling Carlsson; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; zeaxanthin; xanthophyll cycle; violaxanthin de-epoxidase; thylakoid; spinach; regulation; purification; pigments; photoprotection; pH dependence; ascorbate; light stress; Plant biochemistry; Växtbiokemi;

    Sammanfattning : The xanthophyll cycle involves the light-dependent and reversible conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. Zeaxanthin has been implicated in the protection of the photosynthetic machinery from over-excitation. The enzyme violaxanthin de-epoxidase catalyses the conversion of violaxanthin to zeaxanthin. 4. 4. Antioxidant Activity of Bolivian Plant Secondary Metabolites

    Författare :Patricia Mollinedo; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytoprotection; Beta-carotene; TBARS; TEAC; ABTS; antioxidant activity; secondarymetabolites; Highland plains; plants; photoprotection; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Certain climatologically-adverse conditions in the basin of the Poopo Lake, located on the high plateau of the Bolivian Altiplano, have prevented the existence of a reliable agricultural system and the impact on the population of the area has been severe. These problems have been the main motivation in choosing this region for this particular study. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Functional studies on the Light-harvesting-Like (LiL) Proteins in Cyanobacteria and Cryptophytes

    Författare :Tania Tibiletti; Christiane Funk; Martin Hagemann; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Photosynthesis; cyanobacteria; Guillardia theta; photosystem II; chlorophyll-binding proteins; onehelix LiL proteins; photoprotection; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The light-harvesting like (LiL) proteins are a widely spread group of proteins within photosynthetic organisms. They are membrane proteins composed of one to four transmembrane helices and – in homology to the light-harvesting complexes of algae and higher plants – at least one of these transmembrane helices contains the chlorophyll a/b-binding (CAB) domain.
