  1. 21. Methodological aspects of quantitative cardiac molecular imaging

    Författare :Tanja Kero; Mark Lubberink; Håkan Ahlström; Elin Trägårdh; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :PET; cardiac amyloidosis; 11C-PIB; retention index; standardized uptake value; PET-MR; MRI; myocardial blood flow; 15O-water; quantification; quantitative modeling;

    Sammanfattning : The objective of this research was to facilitate the use of quantitative cardiac molecular imaging by developing and validating methods and applications. More specifically:we determined the optimal tracer kinetic model for analysis of 11C-PIB and evaluated the performance of two simpler measures, retention index (RI) and standardized uptake value (SUV), in the quantification of cardiac 11C-PIB uptake in amyloidosis. 2. 22. Impact of Tissue Characteristics on Radio-Frequency Lesioning and Navigation in the Brain : Simulation, experimental and clinical studies

    Författare :Johannes Johansson; Karin Wårdell; Hans von Holst; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Brain; Radio frequency ablation; Finite element method; Monte Carlo simulation; light reflectance; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : Radio-Frequency (RF) lesioning, or RF ablation, is a method that uses high frequency currents for thermal coagulation of pathological tissue or signal pathways. The current is delivered from an electrode, which also contains a temperature sensor permitting control of the current at a desired target temperature. In the brain, RF lesioning can e.g. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Nitric oxide, arginine and acute pancreatitis

    Författare :Per Sandström; Jörgen Larsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis is a serious inflammatory condition which is managed symptomatically as there is no causal treatment to offer. The main background causes are alcohol abuse and gallstone disease. The inducing factors lead to a premature activation of pancreatic enzymes in the acinar cells and their subsequent release into the pancreatic tissue. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Decellularization as a method to generate a new generation of vascular grafts

    Författare :Robin Simsa; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tissue engineering; vascular grafts; cardiovascular disease; decellularization;

    Sammanfattning : Decellularization of blood vessels is a technique to remove cells from the extracellular matrix (ECM), which can be used as a vascular graft for peripheral or coronary blood vessel bypass surgery. This thesis focuses on the optimization of decellularization strategies for blood vessels such as porcine vena cava, to determine the optimal decellularization protocol (Paper I) and the ideal method of applying liquids during the decellularization process (Paper II). 5. 25. Studies on the regulation of human skeletal muscle lipolysis in vivo

    Författare :Veronica Quisth; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Intramuscular triglycerides; skeletal muscle; lipolysis; insulin; catecholamines; microdialysis;

    Sammanfattning : Intramuscular triglyceride deposits are a significant energy source, and are considered to be of importance in the pathogenesis of skeletal muscle insulin resistance. In contrast to adipose tissue, the lipolytic process in skeletal muscle is not well characterised. LÄS MER
