  1. 1. Assessment of cognition in ageing. Investigating internal validity, occurrence and reversion of Mild Cognitive Impairment. Data from the general population study “Good Aging in Skåne”

    Författare :Marie Claire Overton; Geriatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ageing; Older adults; Cognition; validity; test administrator effects; cohort effects; Mild cognitive impairment;

    Sammanfattning : Given a growing population of older adults and the common occurrence of natural as well as pathological cognitive decline, i.e. dementia, there is a need to better understand how to accurately measure and classify level of cognitive functioning. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Revealing the complex nature of amyloid beta and its relation to dementia

    Författare :Eleni Gkanatsiou; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Alzheimer s Disease; Amyloid beta; Mass spectrometry; Cerebral amyloid angiopathy; Down Syndrome; Pathological ageing; Dementia with Lewy bodies; Parkinson s disease dementia; dementia;

    Sammanfattning : Alzheimer disease (AD) is the most common type of dementia and characterized by the accumulation of amyloid plaques in the extracellular space of the brain parenchyma. Amyloid plaques consist of amyloid beta peptides (Aβ). Amyloid pathology can also be involved in other types of dementia, either as a driving force or as a coexisting pathology. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Neuronal nicotinic receptor subtypes in normal ageing, Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia : influences of neuropathological mechanisms as studied in human autopsy brain and transgenic mice

    Författare :Amelia Marutle; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ageing; Alzheimer s disease; P-amyloid; Nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subtypes; Postmortem human brain; Schizophrenia; Transgenic mice;

    Sammanfattning : Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are transmitter-gated ion channel receptors which are widely distributed in the brain. They mediate the effects of several neurotransmitters including ACh, DA, 5-HT and NA and are important for many normal physiological functions in the brain and are also implicated in a number of CNS disorders, such as AD, PD, schizophrenia, Tourette's syndrome and familial epilepsy. 4. 4. Muscarinic M1 and M4 receptor subtypes in normal and pathological conditions in the central nervous system : studies on human and animal tissues using subtype selective ligands

    Författare :Ezra Mulugeta; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Snake venoms from different mamba species contain toxins that bind to muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (mAChR). The toxins MT-1 (selective for M1 after iodination), M1 toxin-1 (also known as MT7, selective for MI) and M4 toxin-1 (also known as MT3, selective for M4 receptors) were isolated and used to study M1 and M4 receptor subtypes in normal and pathological conditions. 5. 5. Visualising neurodegeneration in the living brain : Preclinical evaluation of PET radioligands

    Författare :Mengfei Xiong; Stina Syvänen; Sahar Roshanbin; Joakim Bergström; Per Borghammer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Positron emission tomography PET ; Alzheimer s disease; Parkinson s disease; SV2A; neurodegeneration; immunotherapy; transgenic mice; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Analytical Chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Pharmacology; Farmakologi; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : With an ageing population, the number of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD) escalates yearly. Pathological hallmarks of AD and PD include aggregated proteins and synaptic dysfunction. LÄS MER
