  1. 1. Spinal Acetylcholine Release : Mechanisms and Receptor Involvement

    Författare :Mahinda Kommalage; Urban Höglund; Ernst Brodin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; acetylcholine release; spinal antinociception; nicotinic receptor; serotonin; GABA; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : Impulses coming from peripheries are modified in the spinal cord and transmitted to the brain. Several neurotransmitters have been involved in the processing of impulses in the spinal dorsal horn. Acetylcholine (ACh) is one of many neurotransmitters involved in the regulation of nociception in the spinal cord. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Conditional and non-conditional reward-related responses to alcohol. Nicotinic mechanisms

    Författare :Elin Löf; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ethanol; nicotine; ventral tegmental area; nucleus accumbens; dopamine; nicotinic acetylcholine receptor; gamma-amino-butyric acid receptor A; conditioned reinforcement; in vivo microdialysis; rat;

    Sammanfattning : The mesolimbic dopamine system is believed to mediate the positive reinforcing and rewarding effects of addictive drugs by increasing dopamine levels in its terminal area, the nucleus accumbens (nAc). Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) within this system appear important for the pharmacological actions of both alcohol and nicotine, which may explain the frequent co-abuse of these two drugs. 3. 3. Neuronal nicotinic receptor subtypes in normal ageing, Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia : influences of neuropathological mechanisms as studied in human autopsy brain and transgenic mice

    Författare :Amelia Marutle; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ageing; Alzheimer s disease; P-amyloid; Nicotinic acetylcholine receptor subtypes; Postmortem human brain; Schizophrenia; Transgenic mice;

    Sammanfattning : Neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) are transmitter-gated ion channel receptors which are widely distributed in the brain. They mediate the effects of several neurotransmitters including ACh, DA, 5-HT and NA and are important for many normal physiological functions in the brain and are also implicated in a number of CNS disorders, such as AD, PD, schizophrenia, Tourette's syndrome and familial epilepsy. 4. 4. Pamoplantar Pustulosis. Pathogenetic Studies with Special Reference to the Role of Nicotine

    Författare :Eva Hagforsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Medical sciences; Palmoplantar pustulosis; smoking; sweat gland apparatus; neuropeptides; non-neuronal cholinergic system; nicotinic receptor antibodies; autoimmune disease; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Dermatology and Venerology; dermatologi och venereologi;

    Sammanfattning : Palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) is a chronic disease of unknown pathogenesis. Most of the patients were smokers. High prevalence of a number of autoimmune diseases was observed among the patients (thyroid disease 14%, gluten intolerance 8%, diabetes type 1 3%). Eosinophils and neutrophils were found in large numbers in the pustules. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nicotinic transmission and drugs in anesthesia : neuromuscular blocking agents and propofol : consequences for carotid body function

    Författare :Malin Jonsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Carotid body; chemoreceptors; neuromuscular blocking agents; propofol; acetylcholine; nicotinic acetylcholine receptors;

    Sammanfattning : The carotid body is the global oxygen sensor of the human body. Acute hypoxia elicits instant hyperventilation mediated from the carotid body type 1 cells, where nicotinic transmission is a key component in oxygen sensing and signalling. LÄS MER
