  1. 26. Strongly Interacting Electrons in One and Two Dimensions

    Författare :Fabrizio Anfuso; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis I present a theoretical study of three differentstrongly correlated systems: Luttinger liquids, spin-1 chains andthe two-dimensional spin-1/2 Heisenberg model.For every sub-field of our research I summarize the background andprovide further details to the work presented in the appendedpapers. 2. 27. Mooring dynamics for wave energy applications

    Författare :Johannes Palm; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; hp adaptivity; Wave energy; Coupled simulations; CFD; Discontinuous Galerkin methods; OpenFOAM; Mooring dynamics; Snap loads; RANS;

    Sammanfattning : This work aims to increase the modelling accuracy of two important problems for the wave energy industry. One concerns the mooring dynamics in the presence of snap loads (shock waves in cable tension). The other is related to nonlinear effects in the resonance region of moored wave energy converters (WECs). LÄS MER

  3. 28. Inverse and optimization problems in electromagnetics -- a finite-element method perspective

    Författare :JOHAN WINGES; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microwave measurements; computational electromagnetics; finite element method; optimization; inductive power transfer; compressed sensing; wireless power; brick-tetrahedron hybrid; parameter estimation; inverse problems;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, a selection of inverse and optimization problems are studied where the finite element method (FEM) serves as a comprehensive tool to solve electromagnetic field problems that lack an analytic solution. The inverse problems are typically formulated in terms of an optimization problem where the misfit between a measurement and the corresponding result of a computational model is minimized. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Methodological Aspects of Clinical fMRI - Reliability Assessment and Development of Data Analysis Strategies

    Författare :Peter Mannfolk; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Blood oxygenation level dependent fMRI Field map General linear model Locally linear embedding Resting-state;

    Sammanfattning : Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive technique used for the investigation of brain function, which has found numerous applications within basic neuroscience. The introduction of fMRI as a clinical tool for presurgical mapping of pertinent cortical regions in patients with tumour or epilepsy has facilitated neurosurgical planning, and most likely reduced the risk of severe postoperative deficits. 5. 30. Electrostatic turbulence and electron heating in collisionless shocks

    Författare :Ahmad Lalti; Yuri V. Khotyaintsev; Hans Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysik med inriktning mot rymd- och plasmafysik; Physics with specialization in Space and Plasma Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Collisionless shocks are one of the most peculiar phenomena in space where non-linear collective phenomena in the plasma dominate the dynamics. They are believed to be one of the most efficient particle accelerators in the universe, and have internal dynamics that are yet to be fully explored. LÄS MER
