6. Phase separation, aggregation and gelation of a charged helixforming polysaccharide in aqueous salt solution
Sammanfattning : The phase behaviour and gelation of the anionic polysaccharide kappa-carrageenan (KC) in different salt solutions was studied. The specific site binding of certain anions and certain cations to the KC helix was used as a means of controlling the interactions. LÄS MER
7. Fluctuating superconductivity and pair-density wave order in the cuprate superconductors
Sammanfattning : High-temperature superconductors are some of nature’s most enigmatic materials. Besides carrying a supercurrent, these materials manifest a range of electronic and structural orders. LÄS MER
8. The optical properties of automatically darkening welding filters based on liquid crystal technology
Sammanfattning : This thesis addresses the problem of the poor optical angular properties displayed by automatically darkening welding filters that are based on liquid crystal technology. It is shown that by reducing thetwist-angle present in the liquid crystal cell to below that of 90° together with employment of a novel polariser arrangement, an optical shutter design using a double-cell construction is obtained thatpossesses a reduced angular transmittance variation when in the activated phase. 9. Nanocellulose-based materials: from colloidal assembly to functional films
Sammanfattning : The assembly of nature-based nanomaterials into complex architectures is both a design principle of biological composites, e.g., wood and nacre with outstanding properties and a promising route for developing functional macroscopic materials. LÄS MER
10. Structures and Properties of Ferroelectric Liquid Crystal Displays
Sammanfattning : Liquid crystals have unique physical properties as they combine the features of solids and liquids. In thermotropic liquid crystals the degree of order varies with temperature resulting in an appearance of intermediate phases. LÄS MER
