    Författare :Per Johan Råsmark; Christer Elvingson; Johan Bergenholtz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; polyelectrolyte gel; microgel; dynamic light scattering; Raman spectroscopy; periodic boundary conditions; percolation; hypersphere; Monte Carlo; Brownian dynamics; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the results of experimental work on polyelectrolyte gels and their interaction with oppositely charged surfactants, and presents two new algorithms applicable to the simulation of colloid and polymer systems.The model systems investigated were crosslinked poly(acrylate) (PA) and poly(styrene sulphonate) (PSS), and the surfactant was dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (DoTAB).     Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gel; microgel; microsphere; polystyrenesulfonate; polyacrylate; polyacrylicacid; DoTAB; DoTAC; CTAB; CTAC; network; polyelectrolyte; complex salt; self assembly; phase behaviour; hysteresis; thermodynamic; core-shell; lysozyme; cytochrome c; microscopy; micromanipulator; elastomer; elastic; protein; surfactant; phase behaviour; sorting; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis concerns polyelectrolyte gels in contact with oppositely charged proteins and surfactant micelles, and includes of four papers (I-IV). In paper I confocal Raman spectroscopy was introduced as a method to trace micelles and investigate the structure of gel-surfactant complexes, in phase separated gel spheres. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Phase separation, aggregation and gelation of a charged helixforming polysaccharide in aqueous salt solution

    Författare :Johan Borgström; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; polysaccharide; physical gel; ion binding; carrageenan; liquid crystal; polymer; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The phase behaviour and gelation of the anionic polysaccharide kappa-carrageenan (KC) in different salt solutions was studied. The specific site binding of certain anions and certain cations to the KC helix was used as a means of controlling the interactions. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Protein-Surfactant Interactions Phase Behaviour and Phase Structure

    Författare :Anna Karin Morén; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phase equilibria; Protein-surfactant interactions; Gel; Precipitate; Solution; Lysozyme; b-lactoglobulin; Ovalbumin; Bovine serum albumin; Dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride; Sodium alkylsulphates; NMR; Cryo-TEM; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Protein-surfactant interactions in water are investigated by following the phase equilibria for protein-surfactant pairs whose constituents carry both opposite and the same sign of charge. The concentration ranges studied are: 0-20 wt% protein, 0-20 wt% surfactant, and 80-100 wt% water. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Molecular associations and transport properties of amphiphiles and gastrointestinal mucin in aqueous solution

    Författare :Géraldine Lafitte; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; transport properties; diffusion NMR; Magnetic resonance imaging; Physical chemistry; hydrophobic association; electrostatic repulsion; gel; Mucin; Surfactant;

    Sammanfattning : An effective uptake/absorption of drug formulations involve many processes; one being the transport of the active molecule through the mucus layer. The mucus layer is a complex mixture of biological molecules. Among them, mucin is the molecule that mainly provides the gel properties of the layer. LÄS MER
