11. Improving NK cell-based immunotherapy of cancer by exploration of migration and inhibitory receptor-ligand interactions
Sammanfattning : The possibility to utilize the immune system as a mean to target malignantly transformed cells has emerged as a novel treatment modality during the last decades and is a field that is under rapid development. Natural Killer (NK) cells are immune cells with an intrinsic ability to recognize and lyse tumor-transformed cells. LÄS MER
12. Natural killer cell education under conditions of perturbed sensing of MHC : studies in MHC-I mosaic and chimaeric mice
Sammanfattning : Natural killer (NK) cells are innate lymphocytes that play a role in infections, tumours and transplantation. Their activating and inhibitory receptors sense cell surface ligands on potential target cells. LÄS MER
13. Natural killer cell tolerance : influence of the MHC class I expression in the host
Sammanfattning : Development of self-tolerance in the immune system is characterized by somatic processes aiming at permanently eliminating, or silencing, potentially autoreactive lymphocytes. Such tolerance mechanisms are of outmost importance if autoimmunity is to be avoided. LÄS MER
14. The ontogeny and regulation of human natural killer cells
Sammanfattning : Natural Killer (NK) cells are members of the innate lymphoid cell (ILC) family and take part in the detection and eradication of virus-infected and transformed cells. In this thesis, together with my colleagues I have investigated how NK cells and other ILCs develop and function during human fetal development, how NK cells are functionally regulated (educated) via the activating receptor KIR2DS1, and how NK cells in our body are affected during the early phase of an acute viral infection. 15. Single cell studies of natural killer cell immune surveillance
Sammanfattning : Our immune system protects us from microbes such as viruses, bacteria and parasitic worms. The immune system also plays a key role in fighting cancer and in carrying out a function termed ‘immune surveillance’, natural killer (NK) cells patrol tissues and participate in the elimination of transformed cells and established tumors.
