6. Optical Monitoring of Cerebral Microcirculation
Sammanfattning : The cerebral microcirculation consists of a complex network of small blood vessels that support nerve cells with oxygen and nutrition. The blood flow and oxygen delivery in the microcirculatory blood vessels are regulated through mechanisms which may be influenced or impaired by disease or brain damage resulting from conditions such as brain tumors, traumatic brain injury or subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). 7. Quantitative Laser Doppler Flowmetry
Sammanfattning : Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) is virtually the only non-invasive technique, except for other laser speckle based techniques, that enables estimation of the microcirculatory blood flow. The technique was introduced into the field of biomedical engineering in the 1970s, and a rapid evolvement followed during the 1980s with fiber based systems and improved signal analysis. LÄS MER
8. Renal failure in experimental sepsis : role of endothelin and the toll-like receptor 4
Sammanfattning : Sepsis is the leading cause of renal failure in critically ill patients, but the pathogenesis of septic kidney dysfunction is poorly defined. The current paradigm states that hypoperfusion and excessive renal vasoconstriction results in renal ischemia. LÄS MER
9. Pathophysiological mechanisms involved in flap ischemia and its treatment : an experimental study with emphasis on the effects of calcitonin gene-related peptide and spinal cord stimulation on ischemia and manipulation of microcirculation in flaps
Sammanfattning : Flap surgery and microsurgery have expanded the therapeutic options of reconstructive surgery. Partial or total flap necrosis, due to circulatory and metabolic events, is, however, still a significant problem for the plastic surgeon. LÄS MER
10. Role of arginase in vascular function
Sammanfattning : Background: Nitric oxide (NO) is central for the integrity of the cardiovascular system, the maintenance of endothelial function and the protection against ischaemic heart disease. The enzyme arginase is up-regulated during ischaemia-reperfusion and by hypoxia in cell culture and animal models which might be of pathophysiological relevance since it competes with NO synthase for their common substrate arginine.
