  1. 6. Recruitment from resting stages among bloom-forming cyanobacteria

    Författare :Annika Ståhl-Delbanco; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; marine biology; Hydrobiology; resting stage; Cyanobacteria; recruitment; algal bloom;

    Sammanfattning : Cyanobacteria are known to form heavy blooms in eutrophicated freshwaters and also form resting stages, associated with the sediments, during harsh growth conditions. These resting stages can serve as inoculum for pelagic populations and function as a potential source for bloom formations. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Functional diversity of zooplankton in marine food webs : Integrating DNA metabarcoding and network modeling

    Författare :Andreas Novotny; Monika Winder; Catherine Legrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plankton; Food-Webs; DNA metabarcoding; Marine; Baltic Sea; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : The oceans are important regulators of the Earth’s climate system by sequestering carbon from the atmosphere taken up by primary producers. Zooplankton, including protozoans and metazoans of different phyla and size classes, occupies several trophic niches and regulates energy flow between primary producers and fish. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Trophic ecology of meiofauna : Response to sedimentation of phytoplankton blooms in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Francisco J.A. Nascimento; Ragnar Elmgren; Richard Warwick; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meiofauna; Cyanobacteria; competition; facilitation; ecosystems processes; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Marine soft sediments are the second largest habitat on Earth. How animal communities in this habitat are structured is a central issue in marine ecology. Food is an important limiting factor for many benthic populations, and settling organic matter from phytoplankton blooms is of vital importance to them. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Genomic and morphological diversity of marine planktonic diatom-diazotroph associations : a continuum of integration and diversification through geological time

    Författare :Andrea Caputo; Rachel Ann Foster; Monika Quinones Winder; Ramon Massana; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytoplankton; diatoms; cyanobacteria; diazotrophs; symbiosis; evolution; phylogenetics; confocal microscopy; qPCR; CARD-FISH; tropics; sub-tropics; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Symbioses between eukaryotes and nitrogen (N2)-fixing cyanobacteria (or diazotrophs) are quite common in the plankton community. A few genera of diatoms (Bacillariophyceae) such as Rhizosolenia, Hemiaulus and Chaetoceros are well known to form symbioses with the heterocystous diazotrophic cyanobacteria Richelia intracellularis and Calothrix rhizosoleniae. 5. 10. Environmental conditions governing the distributions of symbiotic and free-living diazotrophic cyanobacteria in two tropical open oceans

    Författare :Marcus Stenegren; Rachel Foster; Bethany Jenkins; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nitrogen fixation; Diazotroph; Cyanobacteria; Symbiosis; DDA; Richelia; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Di-nitrogen (N2) fixation plays a crucial role in oceanic carbon and nitrogen cycles and is important for marine biogeochemistry on regional and global scales. N2-fixing (diazotrophs) cyanobacteria are considered to contribute the most to marine nitrogen fixation, and thereby fuel the surrounding phytoplankton communities with bioavailable ammonia. LÄS MER
