  1. 1. Hydrogeochemical effects of hydropower regulation on river-aquifer continuum in boreal rivers

    Författare :Dmytro Siergieiev; Hjalmar Laudon; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geochemistry; hyporheic zone; hydrology; riparian zone; Element transport; Lule River; Kalix RIver; Northern Sweden; Earth sciences; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hydropower infrastructure affects many large rivers worldwide, threatening riverine and coastal ecosystems by fragmenting flow, disturbing landscapes and water retention and altering sedimentation and primary production. This thesis investigated major impacts of hydropower regulation on hydrological and geochemical processes in large boreal rivers. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Molecular and isotopic characterization of terrestrial organic carbon released to (sub-)Arctic coastal waters

    Författare :Jorien Elisabeth Vonk; Örjan Gustafsson; Jason Neff; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :organic carbon; terrestrial biomarkers; radiocarbon; particulate organic carbon; sediments; sphagnum; Arctic; Bothnian Bay; East Siberian Sea; Kalix River; Kolyma River; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Arctic soils store half of the global soil organic carbon (OC) pool and twice as much C as is currently present in the atmosphere. A considerable part of these carbon pools are stored in permafrost. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Comparison of the geochemistry of the regulated Lule River and the unregulated Kalix River, Northern Sweden

    Författare :Magali Collomp; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hydropower production in Sweden represents nearly 50% of the total electricity production in Sweden. The aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of stream regulation on the geochemistry of the Lule River, northern Sweden, which is the largest and the most important river for waterpower production in Sweden. 4. 4. Impact of hydropower regulation on river water geochemistry and hyporheic exchange

    Författare :Dmytro Siergieiev; Hjalmar Laudon; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; regulated river; hyporheic zone; hydraulic conductivity; clogging layer; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hydropower regulation of rivers exhibits a threat to the riverine ecosystems. Fragmentation of flow, landscape disturbances, and water retention are key features of regulated catchments, resulting in reduced floods and geochemical tr¬ansport, non-natural water level fluctuations, and thus disturbed exchange between the river and the aquifer. 5. 5. Geochemistry of the Kola River, northwestern Russia

    Författare :Larisa Pekka; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : The Kola River in the northern part of the Kola Peninsula, northwestern Russia, flows into the Barents Sea via the Kola Bay. The river is vital for the reproduction of salmon and an important source of drinking water for more than 500,000 people in Murmansk and the surrounding municipalities. LÄS MER
