    Sammanfattning : An elevated level of Arsenic (As) in aquifers from India and Bangladesh affecting the human health has been widely reported since the late 1980s. The thesis aim is to investigate the present status of As contamination and biogeochemical cycling with direct role of diverse indigenous bacterial communities in As cycling in the Bengal Delta Plain (BDP) aquifers in Nadia district, West Bengal (India). 2. 7. Sulphide oxidation and geochemical processes in mine tailings

    Författare :Lena Alakangas; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : The generation of acid mine drainage (AMD) from oxidation of sulphide- bearing waste is a world wide problem, due to low pH levels and the release of metals to recipients. It is therefore important to understand the fundamental geochemical processes occurring in mine waste. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Geochemical effects of soil cover remediation on sulphide-rich tailings at the Kristineberg mine, northern Sweden

    Författare :Erik Carlsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Remediation of mine waste by the application of till cover is one of the more common methods used in Sweden to prevent oxidation of sulphide-rich minerals. Although the general conclusion from Swedish state-of-the-art field studies is that dry covers may be effective, they are expensive to construct. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Dissolved and suspended transport of tungsten, molybdenum, and vanadium in natural waters

    Författare :Susanne Bauer; Johan Ingri; Carl-Magnus Mörth; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; tungsten; molybdenum; vanadium; Baltic Sea; redox cycling; suspended particles; boreal rivers; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Some transition metals and metalloids occur primarily as oxyanions in natural waters including antimony, arsenic, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten and vanadium. These oxyanions can pass through cell walls along the same pathways as phosphate or sulfate. Some of these oxyanions are essential for life, but in high concentrations they become all toxic. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Electrochemical Investigations of Water and Hypochlorite Reduction on a-and y-FeOOH

    Författare :Kristoffer Hedenstedt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sodium chlorate; corrosion; electrodeposition; goethite; lepidocrocite; hypochlorite reduction; hydrogen evolution;

    Sammanfattning : The cathodes in the electrochemical cells used for production of sodium chlorate process are made from mild steel. Due to the harsh environment in the chlorate cell, with oxidative species such as chlorate and hypochlorous acid, the cathodes corrodes. This corrosion might be beneficial, leading to surface enlargement and lower potential. LÄS MER
