26. Regulation of HIV-1 provirus transcription
Sammanfattning : Transcription of the HIV-genome is regulated by the interaction of viral long terminal repeat (LTR) cis-acting sequences with a complex of viral regulatory proteins and cellular transcription factors. The complex interplay between the cellular-, and/or viral proteins and LTR of different subtypes may play a role in the control of HIV-1 latency versus activation. LÄS MER
27. Topology Prediction of α-Helical Transmembrane Proteins
Sammanfattning : Membrane proteins fulfil a number of tasks in cells, including signalling, cell-cell interaction, and the transportation of molecules. The prominence of these tasks makes membrane proteins an important target for clinical drugs. LÄS MER
28. Sex chromosomes in willows : evolutionary studies of the ZW sex chromosome system in Salix viminalis
Sammanfattning : Sexual reproduction is found in most eukaryotes and has in the majority of animal species led to the evolution of separate sexes. In contrast, only 5-6% of all angiospersms are dioecious with female and male flowers on separate individuals. Interestingly, dioecy has evolved hundreds of times independently and at different timepoints in angiosperms. LÄS MER
29. Hfq- and sRNA-mediated regulation in Neisseria meningitidis
Sammanfattning : Neisseria meningitidis, also known as the meningococcus, is a human-specific pathogen that commonly colonises the nasopharynx without causing disease. For reasons unknown, N. meningitidis can traverse the nasopharyngeal epithelium and enter the bloodstream, causing invasive meningococcal disease manifesting in septicaemia and/or meningitis. LÄS MER
30. Modulation of cellular and viral functions in Epstein-Barr virus infected cells
Sammanfattning : The aim of the study was to investigate the interplay of cellular and viral genes in Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infected cells. Two aspects of this interaction have been investigated. The first aspect is related to the expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules in virus infected malignant cells. LÄS MER
