  1. 21. Cytokine studies in the generation and treatment of IgE-mediated allergy

    Författare :Ankie Söderlund; Huub Savelkoul; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cytokines; Hypersensitivity; Allergy; Allergi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : So called Th2 cytokines, such as IL-4 and IL-13 are responsible for the formation of IgE antibodies, the effector antibody in atopic allergy. Cytokines of Th1 type, for example IFN-g, inhibit these responses. This thesis describes work aimed at elucidating the cytokine production underlying IgE-mediated allergy. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Novel immunization strategies and interethnic differences in response to malaria infection

    Författare :Charles Arama; Marita Troye-Blomberg; Kai Matuschewski; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malaria; Immunization; Ethnic groups; vaccines; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : A better understanding of the role of antigen-presenting cells (APCs) in host resistance to malaria is essential to unravel the complex interactions between the host and the parasite. This would improve the design of malaria vaccines. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Immunopathogenesis of Gai2-deficient mice. A model of inflammatory bowel disease

    Författare :Lena Öhman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inflammatory Bowel Disease; Mucosa; Apoptosis; Bordetella pertussis; G-protein;

    Sammanfattning : The intestinal mucosa is the largest lymphoid organ in the body, and it simultaneously has to protect us from any pathogen that might enter the gastrointestinal tract as well as maintaining tolerance to most antigens, mainly in the form of dietary constituents and microbial products. A dysfunctional control of local intestinal immune responses may lead to development of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) - the common name for ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn´s disease (CD). 4. 24. T cells in patients with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia (B-CLL) and multiple myeloma (MM) : an immunological study

    Författare :Shahryar Kiaii; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :T cell; B-cell Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia ; Multiple Myeloma ; signaling; gene expression;

    Sammanfattning : There are several lines of evidence that T cells in patients with Multiple Myeloma (MM) and B-cell Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (B-CLL) are phenotypically aberrant. The overall aim of this thesis was to study T cells with a focus on TCR-signaling pathways in these two B-cell malignancies. The role of T-cells in B-CLL etiology was also examined. LÄS MER

  5. 25. B- and T- cell responses in colectomized and healthy individuals after mucosal vaccination

    Författare :Jan Kilhamn; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestinal immunity; antibodies; interferon gamma production; ileostomy fluid; enteric vaccines; mucosal vaccination;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aims were to study the induction of intestinal and systemic B- and T-cell immune responses in patients colectomized due to ulcerative colitis and in healthy volunteers after mucosal administration of enteric vaccines. An inactivated B-subunit whole-cell (B-WC) cholera vaccine and a live attenuated Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi Ty21a vaccine were used as model immunogens. LÄS MER
