  1. 26. Mechanisms in inflammatory demyelinating diseases of the nervous system : immunological and methodological aspects

    Författare :Maria Kvarnström; Jan Hillert; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The diseases studied in this thesis, Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Polyneuropathy associated with monoclonal gammopathy of uncertain significance (PNMGUS), are of autoimmune origin with myelin components as putative auto antigens. T cells are important for the pathogenesis, as well as the cytokine network and autoantibodies. LÄS MER

  2. 27. Role of apolipoprotein E isoforms and cytokines in immune responses and inflammation of the mouse peripheral nervous system

    Författare :Hongliang Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Experimental autoimmune neuritis (EAN) as an animal model for Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) in humans is an immune-mediated disorder affecting the peripheral nervous system (PNS). Apolipoprotein E (apoE) is a glycosylated protein characterized by its wide tissue distribution and multiple biological functions. LÄS MER

  3. 28. Regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria

    Författare :Anna Martner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Gram-positive; Gram-negative bacteria; Streptococcus pneumoniae; IL-12; autolysin; pneumolysin; CD4 T cells; monocytes macrophages; dendritic cells;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria are classified as Gram-positive or Gram-negative, depending on their cell wall structure. The role of the bacterial cell wall in immune regulation is the focus of the current work. Most Gram-positive bacteria stimulate monocytes to produce large amounts of IL-12. LÄS MER

  4. 29. Phospholipase A2 expression in the human nasal mucosa

    Författare :John Lindbom; Roger Sundler; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Phospholipase A2 (PLA2) is a superfamily of enzymes that promote inflammation by releasing arachidonic acid for the synthesis of eicosanoids and lysophospholipid for the synthesis of platelet-activating factor (PAF). On the other hand, several members of the PLA2 family (VIIA, VIIB, VIIIA and VIIIB) are able to degrade PAF and are therefore potentially important anti-inflammatory enzymes. LÄS MER

  5. 30. Inflammation and cytokine production in experimental neuroinflammatory disorders

    Författare :Xiang-Yu Zheng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Glutamate excitotoxicity is involved in the pathogenesis of a variety of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and multiple sclerosis (MS). Kainic acid (KA), an analogue of excitotoxic glutamate, can elicit selective neuronal death in the brain of rodents, of which the pathological changes partially mimic the neurodegenerative disorders in humans.
