6. With district heating toward a sustainable future : System studies of district heating and cooling that interact with power, transport and industrial sectors
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to identify measures which should be taken in DH systems (DHSs) in order to contribute to the development of the DHSs and other energy systems (especially transport, industrial and power sectors) toward sustainability.Four business strategies were analysed: delivering excess heat from biofuel production industry to DHSs, conversion of industrial processes to DH, integration of biofuel production in DHSs and integration of DHdriven absorption cooling technology in DHSs. 7. A System Perspective on District Heating and Waste Incineration
Sammanfattning : Energy recovery by waste incineration has a double function as waste treatment method and supplier of electricity and/or heat, thereby linking the systems of energy and waste management. Both systems are undergoing great changes, mainly due to new regulations. LÄS MER
8. Clinical application of intensity and energy modulated radiotherapy with photon and electron beams
Sammanfattning : In modern, advanced radiotherapy (e.g. intensity modulated photon radiotherapy, IMXT) the delivery time for each fraction becomes prolonged to 10-20 minutes compared with the conventional, commonly 2-5 minutes. The biological effect of this prolongation is not fully known. LÄS MER
9. Life performance assessment methodologies for combined solar energy technologies : a case study on system parts in nordic climates
Sammanfattning : The main questions concerning energy technologies today are their economical and environmental impacts. These entities are (at the present) assessed on the basis that operations proceed as newly installed/designed systems, during an assumed working life period. LÄS MER
10. Corporate and city GHG inventories : Impact on global CO2 emissionswhen considering electricity and CHP-based district heating
Sammanfattning : One initiative to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions involves developing standards for GHG inventories. Companies and cities (regions) can use GHG inventories to compile and report their GHG emissions. LÄS MER
