  1. 1. Hidden patterns that matter : statistical methods for analysis of DNA and RNA data

    Författare :Therese Kellgren; Patrik Rydén; Sara Sjöstedt de Luna; Rebecka Jörnsten; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genome; Next-generation sequence; statistics; microarrays; bacteria; antibiotic resistance; inherited diseases; Co-expression networks; centralization within subgroups;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding how the genetic variations can affect characteristics and function of organisms can help researchers and medical doctors to detect genetic alterations that cause disease and reveal genes that causes antibiotic resistance. The opportunities and progress associated with such data come however with challenges related to statistical analysis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Novel planar and particle-based microarrays for point-of-care diagnostics

    Författare :Gustav Svedberg; Helene Svahn Andersson; Jesper Gantelius; Fridtjof Lund-Johansen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Planar microarrays; Particle-based microarrays; Point-of-care diagnostics; Colorimetric detection; Signal enhancement; Isothermal DNA amplification; Solid-phase DNA amplification; Biotechnology; Bioteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : Point-of-care assays are easy-to-use, portable and inexpensive tests that canbe used to aid diagnostics by measuring levels of disease-specific moleculesin settings where access to advanced laboratory equipment and trainedpersonnel are limited, such as at the patient's bedside or in low resourceparts of developing countries. In order to achieve high multiplexingcapacities, such assays can be based on planar microarrays consisting ofspots immobilized on a flat surface or on particle-based microarrays basedon populations of encoded particles. Sammanfattning : Breast tumours harbour a large amount of genetic and epigenetic alterations, which are associated with e.g. tumour aggressiveness, prognosis, and response to therapy. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Gene Expression and DNA Methylation in Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

    Författare :Jessica Nordlund; Syvänen Ann-Christine; Xavier Estivill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Digital gene expression; Allele-specific gene expression; DNA methylation; Epigenetics; Acute lymphoblastic leukemia; Molekylär medicin; Molecular Medicine;

    Sammanfattning : Pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common malignancy in children, which results from the malignant transformation of progenitor cells in the bone marrow into leukemic cells. The precise mechanisms for this transformation are not well defined, however recent studies suggest that aberrant regulation of gene expression or DNA methylation may play an important role. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Empirical Bayes Methods for DNA Microarray Data

    Författare :Ingrid Lönnstedt; Allan Gut; Tom Britton; Mette Langaas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical statistics; two-channel microarrays; differential expression; replication; empirical Bayes; factorial design; interaction; time trends; hierarchical Bayes; MCMC simulations; ANOVA; F-statistics; Matematisk statistik; Mathematical statistics; Matematisk statistik;

    Sammanfattning : cDNA microarrays is one of the first high-throughput gene expression technologies that has emerged within molecular biology for the purpose of functional genomics. cDNA microarrays compare the gene expression levels between cell samples, for thousands of genes simultaneously.
