  1. 11. The sensory morphology of insect pollinators : From structure to behaviour and ecology

    Författare :Zahra Moradinour; Emily Baird; Karl Gotthard; Karin Nordstrom; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Insect pollinators; butterfly; bumblebee; sensory system; developmental temperature; light habitat; Functional Zoomorphology; funktionell zoomorfologi;

    Sammanfattning : Insect pollinators play an important role in balancing our ecosystems and maintaining plant and food diversity. Due to anthropogenic activities such as global warming, habitat loss and degradation, pesticides, and pathogens, many pollinator populations have been undergoing drastic declines in recent decades. 2. 12. Reproductive physiology of the female three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus

    Författare :Chrysoula Roufidou; Bertil Borg; Geir Lasse Taranger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; overripening of eggs; spawning cycle; brain-pituitary-gonad BPG axis; vitellogenin; ovarian fluid; sex steroids; reproduction; three-spined stickleback; Gasterosteus aculeatus; fish; funktionell zoomorfologi; Functional Zoomorphology;

    Sammanfattning : Reproduction in vertebrates, including fishes, is under control of the brain-pituitary-gonad (BPG) axis. The female three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus, produces egg clutches at intervals of a few days and spawns them in a nest built by male. LÄS MER

  3. 13. The brain-pituitary-gonadal axis of the three-spined stickleback, Gasterosteus aculeatus

    Författare :Yi Ta Shao; Bertil Borg; Sylvie Dufou; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BPG axis; GnRH; lh-β; fsh-β; three-spined stickleback; Gasterosteus aculeatus; homeostasis; feedback; funktionell zoomorfologi; Functional Zoomorphology;

    Sammanfattning : The seasonal reproduction of the three-spined stickleback is stimulated by long day photoperiod. As in other vertebrates, the reproductive system of stickleback is regulated by the brain-pituitary-gonadal (BPG) axis which is largely controlled by feedback effects. Both negative and positive feedback effects on the BPG axis have been found in fish. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Causes and consequences of spatial genetic variation in two species of scleractinian coral in East Africa : Levels of genetic differentiation and intraspecific diversity of Pocillopora damicornis and Platygyra daedalea

    Författare :Petra Souter; Mats Grahn; Bertil Borg; Karen Miller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population genetics; corals; Kenya; Tanzania; Functional Zoomorphology; funktionell morfologi;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is a study of the spatial genetic structure of two species of scleractinian corals, Pocillopora damicornis and Platygyra daedalea. The overall objective was to investigate the current capacity of MPAs to preserve and restore coral reefs and to contribute information to improve management decisions. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Unraveling the regulatory mechanisms of pupal diapause termination

    Författare :Philip Süess; Philipp Lehmann; Christian Wegener; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diapause; diapause termination; prothoracicotropic hormone; ecdysone; thermal performance; Functional Zoomorphology; funktionell zoomorfologi;

    Sammanfattning : Diapause is an essential part of many insect’s life cycle and is a developmental halt induced by environmental cues in advance of deteriorating conditions. Insects typically enter diapause to avoid unfavorable environmental conditions like low temperatures, poor food quality and the absence of conspecifics. LÄS MER
