  1. 41. Multiscale modeling of ductile fracture in solids

    Författare :Erik Svenning; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Ductile fracture occurs in many situations of engineering relevance, for example metal cutting and crashworthiness applications, where the fracture process is important to understand and predict. Increased understanding can be gained by using multiscale modeling, where the effective response of the material is computed from microscale simulations on Statistical Volume Elements (SVEs) 1 containing explicit models for the nucleation and propagation of microscopic cracks. 2. 42. Seismological Investigation of Katla Volcanic System (Iceland) : 3D Velocity Structure and Overall Seismicity Pattern

    Författare :Zeinab Jeddi; Ari Tryggvason; Olafur Gudmundsson; Heidi Soosalu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Volcano tomography; volcano seismicity; Katla volcano; Earthquake location; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Sammanfattning : The work in this thesis concentrates on Katla volcano in southern Iceland. This is one of Europe’s most active volcanoes and its history tells us that it poses many threats to society, both locally (Iceland) and on a broader scale (Europe). LÄS MER

  3. 43. Identification and imaging of lipids in tissues using TOF-SIMS

    Författare :Ylva Magnusson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :mass spectrometry; lipids; fatty acids; diacylglycerols; triacylglycerols; TOF-SIMS; adipose tissue; aortic wall; skeletal muscle; obesity; principal component analysis;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Normal lipid metabolism in the adipose tissue, skeletal muscle and aortic wall is important for the physiological function of these tissues. Dyslipidemia that is often associated with intake of high energy diet and sedentary lifestyles can lead to the development of insulin resistance and cardiovascular diseases. LÄS MER

  4. 44. Molecular Interaction in Aqueous Solutions : Effects of Temperature and Solutes on Surface Structure and Hydrogen Bonding in Water

    Författare :Clara-Magdalena Saak; Carl Caleman; Olle Björneholm; Nicusor Timneanu; Edwin Kukk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Intermolecular forces in liquids can give rise to complex emergent structures, particularly in water, where hydrogen bonding causes the formation of extended networks, and surfaces, where intermolecular structures can be distinctly different from the bulk, leading to unique properties and behaviours. While such structures have been studied in detail, it is still relatively unknown how such structures respond and adapt to external changes to their environment. LÄS MER

  5. 45. The geology and genesis of lead-zinc veins in Sweden

    Författare :Åke Johansson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The geology and genesis of Pb-Zn-bearing vein deposits in Sweden have been studied through investigations of their geological setting, vein and alteration mineralogy, wall rock geochemistry, lead and sulfur isotope composition and sphalerite composition, and through thermometric measurements on fluid inclusions from selected veins. The investigated deposits include Subjotnian veins from Älvdalen, Dalslandian veins from Dalsland and Värmskog, Caledonian quartz and calcite veins, Devonian deposits in the Siljan Ring structure, and Variscan veins in SE Scania.
