  1. 1. Seismic imaging of deep crustal reflectivity in Sweden and Iceland

    Författare :Niklas Juhojuntti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; seismic; reflectivity; Moho; crust; signal; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Sammanfattning : Seismic reflection profiling, originally developed by the petroleum industry, was adapted to systematic imaging of deep structures some 25 years ago. In continental areas, these measurements often show weakly reflective upper crust and strongly reflective lower crust. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Prediction of Strong Ground Motion and Hazard Uncertainties

    Författare :Behrooz Tavakoli; Ota Kulhanek; Dieter Mayer-Rosa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geophysics; Disaggregation; Ground motion; Monte Carlo simulation; Seismic hazard; Geofysik; Geophysics; Geofysik; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to provide a detailed description of recent methods and scientific basis for characterizing earthquake sources within a certain region with distinct tectonic environments. The focus will be on those characteristics that are most significant to the ground-shaking hazard and on how we can incorporate our current knowledge into hazard analyses for engineering design purposes. 3. 3. Analyses and Application of Ambient Seismic Noise in Sweden : Source, Interferometry, Tomography

    Författare :Hamzeh Sadeghisorkhani; Ólafur Gudmundsson; Ari Tryggvason; Roland Roberts; Frederik Tilmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Seismic interferometry; Ambient noise; Surface wave; Wave propagation; Inverse theory; Sweden; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Sammanfattning : Ambient seismic noise from generation to its application for determination of sub-surface velocity structures is analyzed using continuous data recordings from the Swedish National Seismic Network (SNSN). The fundamental aim of the thesis is to investigate the applicability of precise velocity measurements from ambient noise data. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Seismicity Analyses Using Dense Network Data : Catalogue Statistics and Possible Foreshocks Investigated Using Empirical and Synthetic Data

    Författare :Angeliki Adamaki; Roland Roberts; Beata Orlecka-Sikora; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistical Seismology; Earthquake Catalogue Statistics; Seismicity Patterns; Precursors; Foreshocks; Στατιστική Σεισμολογία; Κατάλογοι Σεισμών; Μοτίβα Σεισμικότητας; Πρόδρομα Φαινόμενα; Προσεισμοί; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Sammanfattning : Precursors related to seismicity patterns are probably the most promising phenomena for short-term earthquake forecasting, although it remains unclear if such forecasting is possible. Foreshock activity has often been recorded but its possible use as indicator of coming larger events is still debated due to the limited number of unambiguously observed foreshocks. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Toward fully automatic earthquake detection and processing for tomography in the Hengill area

    Författare :Frederic Wagner; Ari Tryggvason; Ólafur Gudmundsson; Roland Roberts; Steven Gibbons; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earthquake detection; local-earthquake tomography; Iceland; induced seismicity; geothermal activity; Geofysik med inriktning mot seismologi; Geophysics with specialization in Seismology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on the automation of seismic data analysis, in particular, event detection, quality assessment of detected events, and preparation of an earthquake catalogue for seismic tomography.The developed event detector uses back-propagation and stacking of a seismic trace attribute with a known velocity model to detect and locate events.
