   Sammanfattning : The aim of this study is to demonstrate that recurrent formal and thematic patterns in Peter Carey’s novels suggest an interrelation between the works, and that an analysis which takes that interrelation into account can extract an argument concerning the ethics of storytelling from the texts. The issue of the status of fictional discourse receives prominent and complex consideration in Carey’s novels, and this study argues that Carey presents storytelling as an intentional mode of social interaction, defined and governed by extra-linguistic conventions.    Sammanfattning : This dissertation argues that the many narrative repetitions and allusions in Thackeray's fiction can be read as comments on and interpretations of each other and of biblical texts. Especially Henry Esmond, The Virginians, and Philip make use of reiterative strategies that have a close affinity with both midrash, classical Jewish narrative exegesis, and Christian typology.    Sammanfattning : This thesis in a tripartite disposition is intended to analyse and synthesize conscious and unconscious reminiscences of reading Homer in Jean Giono’s works, especially the figure of Odysseus polutropos or polumècanos, and to elucidate how the modern author through his characters regenerates this topos. Despite the fact that these two authors sprang from, in time and space, remotely situated places in the Mediterranean soil, the agrarian and manufacturing societies to which they belonged had many similarities.
